I realize that I was stupid but I thought since he had been on the forum for 6 years that it might be OK
@Marketer2 sent me a message offering to sell me a Trijicon scope. He claimed he did not have PayPal and that I should send it via Apple Pay. I was reluctant but foolishly sent the $700! Now he claims he has no access to the money and wants me to send him another $150 so that he “can afford to send the scope because he has no money”
I was stupid and encourage you not to be!

I'm guessing it was a legitimate account that got hacked. Dude only had 14 posts and the last one was in 2020. The language of the screenshots is different than the guy previously used.

Always look at prior postings and feedback.

The obvious red flags should have been enough of a turn off.

When have you ever seen "Howdy ??"

A pastor and a chaplain! This person must be a man of God!

The guy has been here since 2019, kind of a long time for a scammer to be lurking. I wonder if a scammer hacked someone's account?!?

A possibility and pretty likely but dont under estimate scammers. They will create accounts and let them soak for years for the exact reason that got OP, the time they have been a member.

The number one thing that people dont seem to get is that these scammers are running a business. This isnt someone sitting in their basement. These are large, organized businesses and they run these everyday. They have 1000s of accounts across the internet, with bots making the initial contact. Letting some of those accounts soak for 6 years is nothing to them.

Also, when you find a scammer, make sure to report the account so that a mod gets a notification. They are not just trying to scam you.

Thanks… I am the Chaplain… looks like they deleted their account now as it says profile not available.

I possibly just got taken for $1500 on this site. Guy even sent me a date and username pic with the scope. He had been a member for a long time and had 100% feedback. I had made an offer a month prior and was told he would think about it. Dropped the price and then reached out to me. Still holding on to some hope, but be careful out there. I guess I am glad it is me and not someone else, but this is getting ridiculous.

That is absolutely worthless. Not bashing you but anyone who reads this should know that any picture of "proof" with a note can be photoshopped and are photoshopped all the time to scam people.

Photoshopping username and date onto a picture is really easy and is a horrible check anymore.

Currently the best is FaceTime.

Thanks for the insult… I already agreed that I was stupid for doing it so thanks for restating the obvious 😂
While his comment was harsh its unfortunately the reality.... Ive said it before and ill say it again id love to know the stats on WTB ads for scams on here. I just dont see why we even offer that option at this point.

Oh, I own it… part of me “wants to believe” that behind each profile is a person who cares about their integrity. That is just not the case… it may well just be an AI driven bot scheme etc.
But now, in the immortal words of Gomer Pyle, “ fool me once, shame on you… fool me twice, shame on me!” 😂😂😂

He offered to facetime 🤷🏻‍♂️. Also offered Money Order as a payment option - usually don’t see that with scammers.

Offering Facetime would give me confidence. Please tell me the address you sent the MO to isnt in Phoenix.
Also interesting, in my initial communication, he said he lived in Mountain Home Idaho and I was going to be going through Boise to bear hunt. He was ok to meet up with me. I ended up not having time, and then several weeks later this happened. I know it is easy to monday morning quarterback, but there were a lot of things going on with this interaction that lead me to believe that it was legit
