Pop-up camper as base camp

I have owned 2 pop-ups and have used them as a base camp. They are pretty darned good in that capacity. They tow exceptionally well and don't create blind spots. Gas mileage doesn't take a huge hit. Set-up is quick and easy. They can withstand quite a bit of wind. They are roomier on the inside than most A-Frames. When collapsed, the inside of the camper is great for gear storage, Heat and A/C actually works pretty well with them. In the southeast, there will always be condensation on the outside. That means folding them up wet when you get on the road in the morning. That necessitates opening them to dry them out before longer term storage. The pop-ups with storage on the front are particularly useful. It's great for storing chairs, grills, muddy boots and stuff.

You have to be careful when folding them down to make sure you haven't left anything out. If you have to pack them up in the rain, it's easy to get into too big of a hurry.

I also had a hard sided A-frame style trailer for a few years, for my use it was perfect since I could get it just about anyplace. It was small but not heavy so easy to tow and store. Hoping to get one again.

Another perk to these is how easy they're to maintain. You mentioned storing, I just toss a tarp over mine and stick it out in the back 40 out of the way. Ive never had any mold issues.

Love my Opus pop up. Lived in it for 10 weeks during covid hinting turkeys in 4 states. Yeah it can get cold but I have a propane heater and that’s what sleeping bags are for.

200 amp hours of lithium battery, solar array to deploy in camp, DC-DC charming off the truck. WeBoost so I can use a hotspot and do work calls including video from almost anywhere. My only limiting factor to go back on grid is water. I have 40 gallos in the tanks and carry another 10 in the truck for drinking.

I saw one of these bear hunting in Oregon a few years back, I looked them up. They sure ask for a premium the covid sticker shock was insane!

It want that much more than another similarly equipped pop up. And a good but less than the airstream base camp which was the other I was considering.

The offroad capability is a lot more robust than most pop ups.

That sounds like a heck of a setup. I need to see inside one of those. My Fleetwood has a slide and it's incredible the amount of "feel space" it adds not being stuck in a thin skinny walkway.
Its so small, hard to take any pictures of the inside. You will have to go look at one in person. Mine is made by Forest River the Rockwood A122TH. I dont see the TH "Toy Hauler" listed for 2024, 2025 anymore....

You cant beat the room of a popup tent trailer though.

I also do a lot of truck camping, eventually I will sell my A Frame, setup a GoFast on my truck and get something larger again.
