You’ve missed the point. Access to federal lands is exactly the same for residents as it is non-residents. It’s only access to hunting licenses that we are asking to be changed. There is nothing stopping you from visiting any National Forest or BLM land in the west, that’s not going to change.
I'm not missing the point. I'm just tired of resident hunters acting like they're the only ones that should be able to hunt in their states when they're paying a fraction of what NR hunters do and most of the hunting is taking place on land that we all pay to support. There are literal economies built around the money out of state hunters spend. The more you try to push guys out for selfish reasons, the more you disenfranchise guys and less guys will hunt. I know you don't care as long as you get an elk tag every year but you're just cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Colorado does need a change and yes OTC for everyone isn't sustainable but 90/10 splits and all this crap is just BS.

Watch them leave it otc for residents and 5k tags per unit for non res to draw lol.
It wouldn't surprise me the least bit. They changed an OTC archery unit to draw only last year and had a bunch of leftovers. But if you put in as first choice, your points are burned. So it would be at least 1 year of impact... if that.

Number of hunters in this thread who said they are the only ones who should be able to hunt in their states = 0

I think many of us CO residents enjoy hunting other states too. I have zero issue having to wait a few years to draw a general Montana tag while they hand them out to residents. Every other western state has become harder to get a NR tag except Colorado. Here, anyone who wants a tag for rifle or archery for elk can roll in to Walmart and scoop one up. Doesn't make sense to me. I appreciate that you mentioned Colorado does need a change. We just may not agree on what that change is. For starters, and what should have been done a long time ago, is no unlimited OTC for NR. I'd be happy if there were OTC caps, reasonable caps. Residents get first crack, anything left, first-come first-served for NR.

Let’s beat this dead horse once more. 700 dollars is a DROP in the bucket compared to what Colorado residents pay 365 days a year. We get it, you come here, but 2 tanks of gas, a slurpy, 5 bags of ice, a few cocktails and maybe some groceries if you were too lazy to do it at home.

Come join the resident club of 900k houses, high gas prices, high taxes, bad traffic, etc etc for 365 days and tell me how great that 60 dollar tag is. My property insurance has gone up 1000 dollars a year 3 years in a row! The county just told me the value of my property is 280k higher, yes 280k than the last time it was assessed for taxes a year or 2 ago . I can’t wait for that tax bill!

Your 200 dollars in groceries, 50 dollars at McDonald’s and 150 dollars in gas isn’t keeping economies thriving. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Yeah if you know someone who will let you hunt on their land. I'll give you an example. I grew up in Ohio. Went back for a visit around Thanksgiving time around 10 years ago. I hunted public land around Coshocton and south and again on public over near Berlin Dam. There were more people than what I see in CO otc. Very disappointing. Ended up hunting private in southern Ohio and killing my 1st and only whitetail out of a stand over a mineral block that had all kinds of oats and other goodies stuck to the block. Unless you know someone back east, or in Ohio anyway, the hunting blows on public. Or plan to spend an arm and a leg to hunt private or join a hunting club somewhere. And despite common belief, the Beaty bucks don't exist behind every tree....

News flash, everything is more expensive everywhere, it's called inflation. Thanks in part to Democratic policies, just like the policies running Colorado.

Ummm not cutting off anything to spite our face. We live here we pay the extraordinary cost of living here. We pay taxes and fees for living here. The animals are managed for us. Your 700 bucks does not make or break our state’s economy.

No one said 90/10 splits. We offer 75/25 more generous than any other western state, if you don’t like it don’t hunt. OTC for all was cool when our population was 3 not 6 million and the country didn’t come to Co every year to hunt Heck all the whining makes me want it to go 90/10…

90/10 split makes me hope they drop some wolves in your favorite elk spot 😂

This is almost as good as listening to people bitch about MT mule deer hunting.
Facts. My buddy who grew up there talked it up. Finally grabbed a point one year and headed up with another buddy. Wall tent, 8 nights, weather, beautiful country. Don't get me wrong, we had a freaking blast, but the deer hunting was rough. I still give him crap, and can't wait to go back. Of course they should have unlimited NR OTC deer permits though. Ya know, just because it would be cool.

If you think residents are grumpy about NR now, just wait until wolves start decimating herds. Won't be so funny then. That 90/10 split might look pretty darn good.
Who's fault is that? They're living in the state that passed a freaking ballot initiative to reintroduce wolves. Who do you think will kill more elk, Joe blow from back east or established wolf packs?
