Are you certain you had 2 and 3? That’s a 2.5 average and you should draw before anyone with 2 points. Something doesn’t make sense.
I’m certain. We had a third applicant with 3 in the party who bailed the night of the deadline, not sure if that affected the results. Who knows.

You’re right. You can’t apply for them separately: it’s gotta be elk, deer, or combo. You can’t pick both elk and deer.

He’s looking at his preference points, everyone’s said retained for deer and released for elk this year for some weird reason leading up to the draw.

Actually I think the retained part is becuse I selected to keep my deer tag in the case that I didn't draw my elk...which seemed to have happened. I also think that my elk B permit is still pending because I can somehow get a leftover or alternate elk license and hunt off of that? Who the eff knows???? LOL

B tags won't be drawn for a couple months. There will be no leftover tags until after that happens.

I was drawn in the second pass due to people not getting drawn for their LE selections! Thanks everyone who didn’t get drawn for those hunts and returned their tags!

Got me a general combo! Woot woot!

Now to see if I drew NM too to see if I need to return it!!! So pumped either way. Playing with house money at this point!

Drew a general elk combo with zero points. No one else in my party. I guess I've got a lot of planning to do.

What's showing is not related to 2022 draw results. Hoping someone can please help me to understand what MT FWP means by "retained"/"released"?

Partner and I drew the elk combo tag as a party with 1.5 points in the released second draw

My cousin drew elk combo with 2 points. I'll be accompanying him on his first ever elk hunt. He's in for a good time.

The way I understand MT draw( I could be wrong) You can draw a big game combo and if you don’t draw your LE elk permit return the general elk tag and keep the general deer tag.

I think I drew a released general elk combo, but not real sure. Mine says Successful elk permit and Not Successful under general elk combo, but next to general elk combo it says released. That's a lot confusing.

Why would they only be able to be in the running every 2-3 years? Once they have 3 PP's they are (currently) going to draw. As long as they apply every year they don't lose their PP's. Am I missing something?
So sure once you have 3 points you in theory should be 100% guaranteed to draw the BGC combo and then be in the pool for the LE permits. BUT anything under 3 points now isn't guaranteed you will even be in the running for those LE permits.

-0 point holders get 25% of combo tags. So you have a chance at drawing the combo and a whack at the LE permit as well with 0 points.

But if you buy a point:

-With 1 point you currently have a 0% chance to draw a combo and in turn a 0% chance to draw a LE permit. Complete waste of a year and you shouldn't even bother putting in anymore with 1 point, just buy it during summer.

-With 2 points you have a less than 100% chance to draw the combo and then be in the pool for the LE permit.
Still worth putting in but frustrating for point holders that you can't even get your name in the hat for LE every year. Not to mention those of us not wanting the elk combo portion and only interested in LE elk are donating $250 every time we return a elk combo tag when we whiff on a permit draw.

So what I was getting at is that you truly only have a 100% chance at even being in the LE pools every 3 years as things stand. Otherwise it's a crapshoot if you even get your name into the LE draw pool because the combo is turning into a 2-3 year draw itself.

Party of 3 drew BG combo with 2 points.

Guess I don’t understand the MT draw at all? I thought MT was a pref point state and all 3 point holders drew, then 2 point got their turn, then if there were still tags left 1 point holders got their turn. Then of course the 25% retained for people with 0 points.

Im seeing people on this thread with 1 point who drew, and others say they had 2 points and didn’t. Very confusing. Oh well. Im going hunting.
