Side note: if you go F-150, ya might want to go up to a year where they switch over to a stereo unit which makes use of an in-dash screen on the unit itself. The 2014 I have, the stereo ties in with a small dot-matrix blue-led display up top and I dunno... could *possibly* present some challenges if I ever opt to upgrade it.

To that regard I'd just say make sure you get one that can play MP3's off a thumbdrive! Makes it easy to have folders that are kid-friendly, then you just opt to loop around within that folder on playback when they are in the car.
Do you have an XL or something??
Mine runs off bluetooth

I'm in the same boat have a Colorado which I love but just had 3rd child so too cramped. I really want to get a Silverado Trailboss but not sure I can get past all 1500's being made in Mexico.

2015 F150 has the screen based system and USB ports. Mine is a middle of the road XLT.

Also, I've had two Sport Tracs. Really liked both of them!

The comment about a larger SUV is worth considering. A friend drove an Expedition for many years as his hunting vehicle. With the right protective materials in the back, it's basically an enclosed F150.

Can't speak on longevity but my 2019 Ram Rebel has been incredible. Couldn't ask for anything more in a truck of that size.

F150 here and with putting kids in the backseat there is no way I’d get a Chevy/GMC. Their backseat is cramped. Ford’s is huge.

I have 110k on my ecoboost with no problems.
Not sure about the double cab...but on the crew cab the new chevy/GMC (2019-current) only have about 1/4 inch less in back seat leg room and the front is within an inch I believe room. Also, Chevy/GMC have larger boxes in all category of box size.

OP is asking about 2017 ish years but again Crew vs double cab/extended cab may make a difference. I personally would never buy a double cab with kids crew cab only.

Earlier you were talking about the Tundra. I traded a 4runner for a 2016 Sequoia 4WD and am super happy. Tons of room for six adults if needed. Plenty of power and I ran 17.8mpg on a run down I81 this weekend. City MPG is about 15-16, but I drive pretty conservatively. Easily could pull a trailer. I got the SR5 Premium with leather and heated seats. Watch out for the more expensive models that have alot of bells and whistles but not any more useful utility. Makes a family trip way easier than stuffing everyone and dogs into a sedan or small suv.

Only knock against the Tundra I have is the fuel mileage SUCKS compared to every other truck on the road.

That's why I sold my mid-sized Tundra before they got even bigger. 17 was the best it would ever do. By comparison, my Silverado gets 20-22 routinely.

Leave one for me! I fear I will be trading this winter, lol.
Don't expect anything close to 30 mpg unless one goes to a diesel (likely unavailable) or a hybrid v6.

That said, I've been watching daily for leaked info on the '22 Tundra. Going to have one in my driveway.
I'm looking for consistent 22-23 mpg in a 4x4 double cab format, mileage that any full size truck should deliver in 2021. Toyota has been completely outclassed for well over ten years in the full sized truck market at this point. Reliability alone carried them.

Wow. Glad I never got one.

My 2013 f150 (SCrew 4x4) hits 25 in the summer and around 21 in the winter. Any full size can hit over 20mpg, sans tundra.

I'd love to have the new tundra as well but I have a rule about buying 1st gen vehicles.

I looked this up and the youtube break downs of the leaks say this 30 mpg is a hybrid electrified V6. The lead truck engineer said the next gen will be electrified in some way.

At that point its a really complicated half electric and same cost as a full electric Tesla Cybertruck...

Been driving an Expy for 10 years..whole different set of problems with them as hunting vehicles. Wish I had dollar for eveytime I have had to clean hoof prints off the head liner..plus trying to put a yak on top a lifted Expy on 35s is no fun. IMO they need lifted and bigger off road tires to be adequate to hunt out of. Hard to stack up the hogs without making a mess...you can do a hitch pan but that's another PIA.

I have a 2018 F-150 Supercab 4x4 with the 5.0 Nothing fancy, an XLT package with the 6.5 foot bed which I'm glad I got. Sitting at 20 MPG average according to the onboard computer. If I manually calculate mileage it gets about 1 MPG less so I'm okay with what the pickup displays.

I tow a 29 foot Super lite travel trailer (5600 lbs) with it and it has the power to pull easily at 65 on reasonably flat roads. It has also handled 8K mountain passes with ease.

32K miles so far mostly highway but it has been on two New Mexico hunting trips and done well including the blizzard last October.

I'm biased to Fords so keep that in mind. Sport mode with the 5.0 is fun to play around with on empty roads. I was always skeptical of the new pickups when everyone said they aren't as tough as the older ones, I also have a 94 Bronco. But the mileage, power, comfort is great. I see no difference if offroad ability compared to the Bronco in regards to how far I push the vehicle, the extra power and locker helps out.

See my post earlier....my 5.0 liter had a bad cylinder at 89k miles. Dealer even said they have seen it before. Dumpster fire.

It was the Coyote, which was supposed to fix the issues of the previous generation f150 V8. Ford can't seem to get their shit together. The same discussion is happening with the diesels of the past 10 years. Which one is not a time bomb???
There's not a perfect motor on the market, and for every one you hear of going bad, there's 50k more that haven't skipped a beat. Those don't get reported, just the ones that have a problem get on 175 different forums and talk about it. I've got friends who run those 5.0s hard and have never had an issue. All of them are mechanical assemblies that will eventually fail, no matter the brand.

Yeah, I thought about that, but Toyota's all-new 2007 Tundra was a great vehicle, I know, I owned one. I'll be getting a '22 unless something really turns me off. I won't own a beast crew cab with 6.5 bed though.
Hopefully the slightly smaller double cab with 6.5 will live on in the new platform.
Wouldn't buy a hybrid, but don't mind the twin turbo Lexus 3.5 that is slated for the truck. The 3.5 in my wife's Lexus rx350 is a fantastic engine, and a great platform for Toyota to build around.

I *can* elect to do bluetooth pairing, but that's just silly as I can stuff a 16GB thumbdrive on there. Besides, I tend to enjoy Underground stuff you're not going to find on any radio station. Don't wanna have to mess with a phone to be my radio. I typically put my phone on Airplane mode as soon as I begin driving out to the hunt, in order to ensure battery is conserved since there's usually no service in there anyway, and I use it for my alarm clock.

My wife has a 2019 Silverado. They took 6” from the bed and added to the cab. It has enough room for 3 kids in the back all
Our luggage for vacation under the seats. It rides like a cloud. No road noise. It’s snazzy. I drive a crew cab Colorado and while we take it places and we all
Fit and can ride but not like the Silverado
Same here. I have a ‘20 Silverado and am very happy. Power, room, comfort, really good gas’s mileage

It’s surprising how good of gas mileage she gets. She gets 477 miles to one tank. It will even suck the doors off most mustangs.
