Just went thru thus...awaiting delivery of my F250 with 7.3 gas. Spent a year comparing trucks...The Tundra was in the running running up to the end but the gas mileage vs payload is horrible...I should get a couple miles more per gallon with the F250 with better payload and towing than a Tundra. 15ish mpg in the F250 vs 13ish in the Tundra based on reviews. Few of my buddies that have Tundras said they would love to get 13mpg..said its more like 12mpg..Few more creature comforts on the inside of the Ford too...My truck is scheduled for delivery in June..interested to test myself and see if the reviews I have been reading hold up. Good Luck in your search.
I currently have a 2017 power stroke and love the truck but if I wasn’t towing a big 5th wheel I would go back to my old 2015 tundra in a heartbeat. Much smoother ride, better off road and it just felt like it was going to last forever. I get about the same fuel economy in this truck as I did the tundra but my f350 SRW weighs 9k lbs. I have heard good things about the new 7.3 gasser.

If you do the research tundra is actually one of the most American trucks. They are assembled in Texas. When I was doing my research a few years ago tundra tied with Ford for #1 on the %American made scale
This is true as I currently worked on all the bids for the new Tundra coming soon. However it is still frowned upon in Detroit to pull into the parking lot at the Ford or GM testing labs when you are in competitive design bids and you are driving a foreign owned car and your competitor is not. Kinda the Detroit Vs Everybody thought process up here

Yeah I gotcha. Makes sense. I was just trying to make sure I was helping some Americans stay employed

I dont know if this helps at all, but I can share my recent experience with Ford. I had a 2013 f150 in the 5.0 liter V8. Bought it basically new with 10k. This January the check engine light came on at 89k miles. I keep my shit nice and never miss maintenance, synthetic oil, etc.. Took it to Ford and they said dead cylinder, 20 percent compression. New engine installed was $11k. Dealer said "good luck bro".

I couldn't get to the Toyota dealer fast enough. Got a Tacoma and couldn't be happier.

I bought my Tundra new in 2018. I have been very happy with it, has a smooth ride and good power.
Gas mileage maybe less than other full size trucks. I usually get 14 mpg with every day driving but I get 20 mpg on longer trips.

I'm in a 2019 F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost, coming from a 2016 Taco and a 2011 Tundra before that. Over 37K now and could not be happier (though I still lust after Powerwagons).

I test drove all the options before buying the Ford. I tested a TRD Tundra and know they're still (for now) solid but the anemic payload was a dealbreaker and the Tacoma was such garbage I wasn't eager to give Toyota any more money at the time.

The complaints about the 10 speed transmission are silly, the best performing drivetrains (by far) in half tons right now are the Fords using them and the GMC with the 6.2 V8.

Check out the F150 forums, the EB longevity seems to be a non-issue (especially the more recent versions like you're looking at) and the main engine complaint of late is oil consumption in a run of V8's.

Test drive all of them and buy which one you like best.

I see the above poster had issues with a Ford half ton 5.0. All in all I've always heard, thats the way to go f1%0 with the 5.0.
Someone else stated they had a new Ford with a 7.3 ordered and due in soon, I thought the new powerstrokes were a different displacement? Like 6.8 or somethjng. Best engine I've ever owned was a 2000 7.3 powerstroke. Did they change the engine again?
If it were for hauling horses, I would buy a tundra. Nothing is truly American made anymore. I think the Hyundais and Toyota etc. are as American made as anything.

Ford powerstroke is 6.7. They recently came out with a 7.3l gas.

Gotcha, that's right, dodge is the 6.8 I think. Wow, I keep thinking of going back to a gas for pulling a stock trailer. With diesel being so high, and those stickers...the gas is getting nearly the same mpg...been thinking on that for a couple yrs now. 70k stickers just aggravate me lol

I could never tow my 5th wheel in the mountains of the west with a gas truck. The power is great of course but the real advantage is the exhaust brake when you have 25,000 lbs trying to push you down hill. If you aren’t towing too heavy a lot of people are happy with gas. My tundra did ok with a small bumper pull toy hauler but that’s as big as I would want to go on a half ton.

I'm not in the mountains anymore, and I've about quit or have quit team roping, so I pull on flatland, or rolling hills. And I've about decided after sitting off for surgeries, breaking this wrist and having surgeries that while I'm staying in the horse business, I'm just going to put everything into my hunting again. So a gas would punch my ticket fine I think, and in driving pickups longer now, not trading em in left and right, so not overly concerned on resale.
These diesels are amazing nowadays, no question about it, and while I can afford it, I get agitated making a mortgage on a pickup note...personally is all.

My experience: my 16 f150 has been the most reliable vehicle I've owned. It's at almost 100k needing nothing but oil and tires. It's the 2.7L with 6spd. The 15-17s can be had with the 6spd if you're uneasy with the newer 10spd. Dont fear the little 2.7L: it's pretty stout and made with a CGI block, good on gas, and performs right with the V8s.

Mind if I ask horsepower torque and what your seeing for mpg?
430 hp, 475 torque. The biggest advantage of this engine vs other gassers is the low end, it makes 400+ torque from 1500 rpm and up.

Only have 100 miles on it so can't really comment on mpg

Would it be to much to ask to let me know once you run a tank of gas down about what your getting, I know first tanks not a good indicator, but gives me a basic idea if I want to go shopping. Thank you
