I *can* elect to do bluetooth pairing, but that's just silly as I can stuff a 16GB thumbdrive on there. Besides, I tend to enjoy Underground stuff you're not going to find on any radio station. Don't wanna have to mess with a phone to be my radio. I typically put my phone on Airplane mode as soon as I begin driving out to the hunt, in order to ensure battery is conserved since there's usually no service in there anyway, and I use it for my alarm clock.
Dude. I JUST realized I have the usb port and can do that too. So...after 7 years my mind is a little blown. I'd usually just throw youtube playlists on and drive....wow. a new use for all the thumb drives I have laying around.

I'd love to have the new tundra as well but I have a rule about buying 1st gen vehicles.
Any motor issues should already be known since it will have a motor going into it that is already in use. At least they aren't doing a redesign AND introducing a new motor at the same time.

Never driven a dodge ram, but from my observational experience they all appear to have mis-calibrated speedometers. Rarely see one going less than 10 mph over the speed limit. And I think the windshield has some kind of distortion that make objects appear further away than they really are, because those trucks are always on peoples a$$. So if you go that route I'd maybe address those two issues first.

I purchased a RAM 1500 Laramie new in 2017. It had a few issues during the warranty period-driver seat control failed, front heat/ac blower fan. and failed compressor for the leveling system. 2 recalls-minor 1 for a tailgate latch the other I forget. Gets about 14MPG city driving, around 19 Hwy. Hemi V8. Has the Ram Box on it, love that for organizing tools and whatever small odds and ends I carry. Fit and finish is nice, (it is a good looking ride). and ride I felt was the best of the big 3 when I test drove it. 10k towing cap, I've pulled about 7500 behind it. Hardly feel it behind me. Factory tires wore fast. Replaced them at about 30k. Roomy in back for adults. No out of warranty major mechanical issues. Have about 52k on it now. I'd buy another one.

We’ve had nothing but great experiences with the 4Runner, Sequoia, And now my Tundra. No one is wrong about the gas mileage with the Tundra. But I love this truck.

The CrewMax allows for a TON of space.

Can attest to the ride. I had a 17 for a rental, very nice ride. It towed our boat as good as my f150. I saw mpg higher than what you stated, 21ish but only had it for a weekend. Towing mpg were on par with current truck as well.

I've got an 18 2.7L F-150 now, I love that truck and will be upgrading to a brand new 2021 this summer. They sell more than any other manufacturer out there, and the V8 and 3.5L tow more than any other manufacturer.

I will add this. Our company has as many do a fleet program. We have had Chevrolet, then dodge and now Ford. Our mechanics will tell you the dodge and Ford are more prone to repairs needed. The Chevrolet is nearly bullet proof. I will also tell you I have a 19 F250 super duty sitting in my driveway right now that is no more than a glorified beer can that can not pull a greased string out of a cats butt. It eats battery’s and starters and an empty mini excavator trailer pushes it all over the road. It only has 64,000 miles on it and it also rides like a square wheeled wagon. Thankfully it’s not my choice to have bought it. We are now transferring back to Chevy to get away from the mountain of issues

The new Tundras are scheduled for this fall if you can wait. 450 hp, 500 ft lbs of torque and 30 mpg are the said numbers on this new beast.
Otherwise, I would lean toward the Ram/hemi. I traded my 2015 Ram (high mileage) last June for a Silverado 1500. Regret it. I miss my Ram for many reasons. More rugged, better ride, more intuitive electronics, etc.
If you believe that, I've got a Creedmoor that shoots 140's at 3100 I'll sell you.
Looks like a blacked out lariat fx4? Looks like Tremor running boards and after market wheels and tires...Very Nice. Interested to see what kind of mileage you get after break in period and 1st oil change.
Yep, Except those are the lariat black running boards. Might be a while before I get used to driving it, and can keep my foot out of it, it makes a pleasant sound in the upper RPM ranges :)

I have a little experience with all of them and my opinion/2 cents:

-I would never own a 5.3l GM, terrible power. Owned a 6.2L gas engine for a few years loved that engine.
-For a low price half ton F-150 2.7l is what I would own
-Ram reliability isn’t comparable to GM & Ford, only time I buy a Ram is if they are discounted to other brands even though they try to sway you with more options
-14 MPG on the Tundra is embarrassing. My 2020 GM 2500 6.6l gas does 15 MPG mixed city/highway (18-19 MPG highway) and it’s brand new. Buy a Tundra for reliability as in every other category it’s in desperate need of an upgrade.

Around my area Fleets only buy GM or Ford.

Ram costs more over a lifetime so fleet buyers avoid.

Check out a newer Nissan Titan. 100,000 mile warranty. Full back seat. Only downfall is probably the 5.5' bed.

In my opinion it always comes down to how you feel about your trucks and what exactly you are using them for. If you plan on buying 1 truck, drive it until it won't go anymore and are ok with 16 MPG then the Tundra is your choice, I don't think anyone on this forum or even the manufacturers themselves can say that they are more reliable than a Tundra.

If having good gas mileage, the latest tech and working on your own or having someone else work on your truck a lot are your things then any of the other manufacturers have their perks. Some cool features to be found in Ford, Chevy or Dodge that the Tundra just doesn't have yet.

What's everyone's thoughts on the new Chevy multiflex Tailgate with the catchy commercial? "Sarcasm alert"

This will top your budget but it also blew out all of our expectations so worth mentioning. After decades of purely Chevrolet, we replaced an 8.1 Yukon XL 2500 with F-350 diesel w Tremor package. It is HUGE but we also got 21.8 mpg last weekend and it drives like a dream. Bye bye Chevrolet, you don’t make them like you used to. 10 speed tranny, no complaints. And we looked hard at all the choices, 1500 series GM and others.

if I was going gas, Tundra all the way on engine build quality. The f-150 eco boost has had some issues with friends trucks.
Just wanna throw out there that i would personally 100% only recommend to get the newer version of the 2.7 liter ecoboost f150(2018+ cause they updated that motor that year) with the 10 speed tranny if you go down the newer f150 path. Its what I've got and I've had zero issues so far, mine has about 55k miles on it. My brother in law got a 3.5 liter one a month later than i got mine, made at a different plant than mine and had 2 recall services done early on. One was pretty simple the other was pretty sketchy and i could see it causing him an issue down the road. A sensor clip was missing on his tranny and it actually tried to enter 4low on the freeway and made some grinding noises. The dealership claims it didn't damage anything which i think is a load of crap lol. So maybe i got lucky and my brother in law didn't but who knows, take that for what its worth i guess. I absolutely love my truck

My buddy just got a brand new f350 lariat and i gotta admit, its a way nicer truck than mine but was more than double the price i paid so it should be way nicer.

Its not a tundra but another friend i have got a new 4runner and after doin all the overlanding mods to it like i did to my truck, that thing is insanely slow and gets horrible gas mileage. Just doesnt seem to me like you get as much performance or features for the money with Toyotas compared to a ford, chevy or dodge. People love em, they are reliable and have good resale tho. My truck has been very reliable so far. Good luck picking a truck OP!

All I know is the dealership just tried to offer me the exact amount I paid for my 2010, 6ft bed, double cab, super charged Tacoma 4 years ago for trade in for a reason... Glad I don’t use the back seat for anyone but my dog. There was a sweet Ram Rebel that caught my eye, but I can pull and do what I need with the Tacoma all the 3 gen Toyota’s don’t do it for me.

So, here in the next 6 or so weeks we'll be adding another little one to the family. I currently drive a Colorado Crew Cab, and while I have zero complaints, I gotta say its a little cramped as it is... and I know adding another kid is only gonna make that issue worse.

I could buy a shell for the truck and keep running it... but there's also the matter of having access to a camper that's right at the weight limit for the truck I have now. Should I want to use it, I'm gonna have to borrow someone else's truck to pull it more than likely.

In any case, I'm on the lookout(but in no rush) for something 2017 or newer, full sized pickup. I won't be buying diesel.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500/GMC Sierra 1500 - seems these get so-so reviews. A lot of people complaining about the interior and some other issues. If I bought one, it would be the V8.

Ford F150 - Coming from Chevrolets, I'm really curious about this one. Seems the tow capacity is a bit on the lower end. My only hang up is that most of the used ones floating around have the 10 speed - seems like some people have great luck with it, while other people can't keep the things on the road. If I bought one, again I'd probably go V8. I see the ecoboosts get good reviews, but the longevity with the turbos scares me.

Ram 1500/Toyota Tundra - I put these in the same category because I'm unfamiliar with each of these, but I'm willing to give them a shot. The Toyota is probably bomb-proof, but they're pretty proud of them. The Ram, seems like its hit or miss, with electrical issues being the top complaint. I'd love to hear about your Ram experience - is the Hemi your best bet outside the Cummins?

Does anyone here have any experience with any of the above, 2017 or newer? Care to elaborate? As far as the Ford goes, even if you don't have experience with the V8, if you have experience with the 10 speed I'd like to hear about it. I'm just looking for something reliable above everything else. I don't care about flashiness, or many creature comforts. As long as its got cruise control, and gets me in/out of the woods in one piece not on a tow truck I'm good.

Thanks in advance.
You should look up some of the torture tests they did on the EcoBoost truck motors. Probably mostly a gimmick but I did a ton of research and its one of the reasons i decided to trust buying an EcoBoost, specifically the 2.7 which has the composite block they use for their diesels, the 3.5 is all aluminum if im not mistaken. The 10 speed is a joint venture between ford and gm so its probably fine. I have it in mine and its going strong
