The new 7.3 gas motors have 430 hp and 475 ft lbs of torque and a 10sp tranny. I dont have a 5th wheel don't plan on getting one. I tow either my 90 YJ or my 75 Bronco and plan on gwtting a slide in camper in the bed never even considered the diesel. I would need to tow a lot more to justify the 12k adder for the 6.7. I did get the Tremor off road package.Beat me to it. I was just going to post the new 7.3l are gas.
I'm in a 2019 F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost, coming from a 2016 Taco and a 2011 Tundra before that. Over 37K now and could not be happier (though I still lust after Powerwagons).
I test drove all the options before buying the Ford. I tested a TRD Tundra and know they're still (for now) solid but the anemic payload was a dealbreaker and the Tacoma was such garbage I wasn't eager to give Toyota any more money at the time.
The complaints about the 10 speed transmission are silly, the best performing drivetrains (by far) in half tons right now are the Fords using them and the GMC with the 6.2 V8.
Check out the F150 forums, the EB longevity seems to be a non-issue (especially the more recent versions like you're looking at) and the main engine complaint of late is oil consumption in a run of V8's.
Test drive all of them and buy which one you like best.
And as much as I hate to agree, as I was raised a Ford guy, your dead on right. Used to be Ford engines were solid all around. This right here is what bothers me about Ford in the past 10 years. Why is there even a discussion about which engine is not a dumpster fire? There is no such discussion with Toyota. When I bought my 5.0 liter everybody and their brother said the 5.0 liter Coyote was bomb proof and the EB was just asking for trouble with a turbo on a gas engine....here we are.

I was into the dodge half ton diesel though, great fuel economy, but when I think diesel I think run forever, and heard the dodge didn't. ill be curious to hear the longevity on fordsFull disclosure, I'm a Toyota guy. Since 2007 I've owned a Tundra (2008 for 8 years), 2015 chevy 2500 high country diesel, and now a 2017 f250 powerstroke. The Tundra crewmax is awesome and is probably the most dependable of all of the trucks I've owned. I got rid of mine because it was a double cab; I was single when I bought it and the double cab wasn't good for a car seat. The f250 is 10x better than the Chevy was in a lot of ways though I know that Chevy revamped their interior last year. The interior cab space of the F250 is amazing and one of the largest day to day advantages of it for a family hauler. If I had no towing needs, I'd get the tundra again if I wanted a gas engine. Since Toyota doesn't sell a diesel, that means that the F250 was next on my list. As for the F150, they're like a mini F250 and even have very similar interiors. I like the diesel F150s, I've heard you get about 30mpg sometimes.
Looks like a blacked out lariat fx4? Looks like Tremor running boards and after market wheels and tires...Very Nice. Interested to see what kind of mileage you get after break in period and 1st oil change.Just picked up my new 7.3 last Friday, I am in love!
On a half ton Tundra? He'll I can pull a shorty stock trailer with 3 horses or a short load of cows with that torque id think. I need to look into this bigtime! The new Tundras are scheduled for this fall if you can wait. 450 hp, 500 ft lbs of torque and 30 mpg are the said numbers on this new beast.
Otherwise, I would lean toward the Ram/hemi. I traded my 2015 Ram (high mileage) last June for a Silverado 1500. Regret it. I miss my Ram for many reasons. More rugged, better ride, more intuitive electronics, etc.
It's hard for me to believe that Ford would have any long-term issues with their diesels. Other than their 6.0 in the mid-2000s, they've had a great run of diesels with great long-term durability.I was into the dodge half ton diesel though, great fuel economy, but when I think diesel I think run forever, and heard the dodge didn't. ill be curious to hear the longevity on fords
best engine I've ever had 7.3 powerstroke, in a 2000 model, it's still running but just an old ranch truck now. It's hard for me to believe that Ford would have any long-term issues with their diesels. That 6.4 was a disaster as well. Some consider it worse than the 6.0. Ever since Ford decided to build their own diesel and came out with the 6.7 it’s been a great engine for them. They had a few little early kinks but since 2013 or so they seem to have been Rock solid. It's hard for me to believe that Ford would have any long-term issues with their diesels. I took it as a bad sign when the salesman at the Ford dealership told my sister to avoid the eco boost. This was a couple years ago but not good IMO. Also, had a family friend have issues with his and a guy at work buy one and it was in the shop like 6 times the first year he owned it. Not saying all of them are like that but not a good track record from what I witnessed.I'm not following.. Is the 5.0 a dumpster fire? Is the ecoboost a dumpster fire? If either are, i'm not aware if it. Been putting 40k+ miles a year on ecoboost F150s since they came out and haven't had a hiccup.
I replaced my 2018 Silverado 5.3 with a f150 2.7 eco boost.F150 w/2.7. they are really reliable and make a 5.3 look silly.
