Anyone know much about “otc” bear tags? Do you have to have a valid tag for other big game to buy one or can you just go hunt bear? Also, how is the bear hunting in the fall in nm?

Bear hunting is tough here, at least in my part of the state. Not sure how far you’re traveling, but I think there are better places to hunt bears if you don’t live here. Most people get a bear tag “just in case” if they have a deer or elk tag already.

That’s what I was thinking. I’m in sw OK so it’s just 6-8 hours to where I was wanting to hunt. May just try and get some PL permission on antelope in the panhandle with my bow

My wife and dad both got 15 1st muzzy elk, looks like I need a second open sight muzzleloader, but I'm happy for them. All red for me and I was aggressive in my choices.

elk hunting has been a dream of mine since I was a kid and it was “cool”, I’m 39 and drew my first choice ML hunt on first attempt to get in the game! Huge blessing and look forward to living the dream!

Applied for pretty high percentage units for deer. All red. Applied as a 2 man party. Don’t know if that makes a difference in your odds or not but apparently didn’t help

Applying as a group absolutely hurts your odds in NM.
