It’s either disease or drought…..
In case you don’t have a GoHunt subscription the short of it is that NDOW might have to relocate a few southern NV desert bighorn sheep herds due to ongoing drought in the Las Vegas area. Although NDOW and groups such as the Fraternity of the Desert Bighron fill guzzlers the sheep are running out of feed. I thought maybe they’d increase quotas to reduce the herd sizes but that’s likely too late since the problem is now so transplant plan might be the only solution. A plan is supposed to be discussed at the next wildlife board meeting meeting March 7 & 8
That said it’s raining in Las Vegas and the surrounding area today for the first time in 214 days so hopefully that’ll start the desert green up and the sheep will have grass to feed on soon. I live in Reno, 460 miles north of Vegas, and we’re getting tons of moisture this week, especially in the Sierras. Same storm is apparently impacting southern NV and northern AZ.
