It’s not simply an investment. It’s ownership.

And I do kick anything and everything out of my life that I possibly can that actively fights against what I hold dear.

I used to own a few thousand dollars of First Lite gear. I had an FHF harness. I had Phelps calls and tubes. I watched the M.E. episodes. I no longer have any of those items and will not watch or listen to them. I refuse to follow any person in videos or podcasts that display or promote their products. And it’s not just them. I got rid of my PSE bow when Bowmar was buying the company. I got rid of packs that were from a company I don’t like the direction they are heading in.

. I obviously can’t know everything about the direction of every product I use, but when I do, I will act on it.

I typically spend around $60k on products a year between bows, clothing, and all the other stuff involved.

For me, my wallet is my vote. Your mileage is yours and I respect your right to choose that direction.
You've got way to much self respect and balls for this conversation. Might as well opt out.

This.......oh this is my point exactly. We can kiss our country goodbye truly because of this attitude. If a raging liberal came to me right now I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire. But....I have standards. I haven't used first lite or watched meat eater since I found out the fact of the silent partner. Hasn't been to hard. You are right that a lot of our stuff is owned by or produced by "communist" etc. But that doesn't make it ok. Do what little we can, and I think not watching or participating with meat eater isn't such a big ask. I mean good lord everyone showed me how powerful they are with the bud light thing (cause the can might kiss you) so I'm pretty sure we could get our little brains together on boycotting other things. But I know that requires alot of thinking and acknowledging (god forbid). Imagine if the founding fathers had your attitude in regards to this country; "I'd be a fool not to take the British money, weaponry, and food, I'll be so much more successful". We woulda all been at that coronation the other day kissing king Edwards ring. No thanks.
Fantastic. Very well put.

I think I like Matt Rinella best in that family anyway.

I don’t get this.

nobody shits on Steph curry for making $500 million playing basketball, when he could just play in his local men’s league for free. Nobody says Tom cruise should stop doing movies and dedicate himself to community theater for the love of acting. No one says Ricky Bobby should stop dominating NASCAR and making millionns on his wonder bread sponsorship.

that $100 million is a bunch of businesses - game calls, gear sales, clothing, media and a considerable amount of tasteful, semi nude pictures of Ole Cal. WTF is wrong with that? Yeah. They make money selling shit and producing content about hunting. Don’t like it? Don’t buy or watch/listen to it.

I would trad places with Rinella in a heart beat every day of the year and twice during hunting season.

I know haters gotta hate, but dang.
Steph Curry didn't sell himself to someone trying to get basketball banned.

This is an oft repeated and retarded talking point for so many obvious reasons.
It's nonsensical and as equally as retarded as the arguments we hear about why we should hate Meateater.

Then what's the utility in making it? Is this a race to the bottom?
Because based on the reasons people give for hating Rinella, Hanes, Black Rifle Coffee and how high they are climbing on their hill to beat their chest, they should be purists to the fullest and not participate in anything un-American, up to and including having a Chinese made computer or anti 2a Apple phone.

Maybe the sarcasm is lost through text. I don't actually believe that statement. Just using it as a comparison.

Hmmm, there is certainly a point where idealism meets practicality. I don't buy anything from China that I don't 'need' -- and I have determined I 'need' a cell phone. I don't think that invalidates my belief that we should prioritize making domestic purchases. If anything, I think it demonstrates the point that the idealists are trying to make.

To revert to the OP's original post, I endorse capitalism and (almost) always admire business acumen. Sometimes it makes strange bedfellows and we all have to make an independent decision to support or not support an individual or entity in our endorsement, which is accomplished in the form of dollars we are willing to part with in exchange for a good or service. Like it or not, we all vote with our wallets.

I think we are very much on the same page. My wife very often complains that I'm so sarcastic that she sometimes thinks I'm being serious about rediculous things. I think I'm guilty of that transferring over to somethings I might put in text .

For all those who hate MeatEater and feel he is bad for hunting, do you think the same of Eastman's Hunting?

What's the difference between the two?

For the record, I'm not a MeatEater lover or hater. As with most all things in life I'm in the middle.

I do love watching these threads blow up after posting a simple article though!

Don’t like MeatEater, don’t watch listen or buy the gear. Believe me they will continue to grow with out your support.
How shortsighted. Has nothing to do with liking or disliking Meateater. It has to do with liking my rights more. Yep, they will grow. Because people refuse to send a message that violating their rights is more important than social media idolatry.

They don’t need my individual wallet. But if more people would send a message by closing theirs, maybe companies wouldn’t be so quick to disregard the customer base.

So chernin group bought into a hunting media and products company because they want to torpedo hunting or shooting? Seems like a pretty weird strategy.
About as strange as animal rights groups getting members on wildlife boards.

It’s almost like they are willing to lose some money to pursue an agenda. But that’s probably just crazy conspiracy….

Well, people vote for very left politicians so they can safeguard public lands to hunt on - go figure. There are latent effects of things.

TCG is interested in money, period. They don’t care about hunting in the least. So, if they made their money and hunting died - they’d simply move on to the next thing - it’s the old “business is business” bullshit. But, if in the process of them seeing the light of a dying market (and profits) and they called for the bill, they’d still go on to make money on something else, while the thing you valued highly died on the vine. They wouldn’t even look back.

Remember TCG invested in Food52c barstool sports, and Gwyneth Paltrows sex-toy shop. Their ability to spot the “next thing” is pretty good, which also means when the good thing goes bad, they are off like a prom dress.
