McMillan Mountain Tracker LR - Tikka T3 Dev Project

For those who have received theirs, how are the bottom metal and barrel inlets? My barrel is pretty off-center and the bottom metal seems a little deep. The fit to the integrated recoil lug isn’t as tight as other Tikka stocks I’ve experienced. Am I being picky?IMG_7457.jpegIMG_7456.jpeg

That inlet is pretty bad. Mine was just a touch off in the front so I sanded it down(before and after pictures attached). I would be contacting them about your inlet to see what solution they propose. It also wouldn’t be a huge deal to sand it down to even but then the stock still may be off center. For as expensive as these are they should be checking this.

My bottom metal looks just like yours. I didn’t even notice until now. I think it’s fine. It’s not that your inlet is off it’s just that the stock is thicker there so they had to make it like that for a proper inlet or your mag won’t sit in there correctly. As long as it feeds it’s good to go.

That makes sense. The barrel channel was definitely more of a disappointment than the bottom metal fit.

It also chipped here by the side of the trigger grazing this area when seating the action into the stock. I was shocked when I saw the chipped piece fall because I wasn’t being rough with it at all.

I will say though, Mcmillan customer service has been fantastic. They’ve already got back with me and offered to make it correct by either correcting the issues or giving me a complete refund.

Let them know I’ll take that one for 50% when you send it back lol

I'm playing with mine right now. 88 elds hit steel hard.

Mine leans left but not like yours.

I feel like I remember wiggle room before I final torqued. Did you try to loosen and push over and retorque?

My barrel channel was a bit off as well but I just went a little heavier on that side when I opened it up and it is damn near perfect now. I also shot mine a bit more today and it’s gonna need a bedding job for sure. Groups opened up quite a bit compared to my EH1 with mini chassis that I’ve been running for a couple years.

Not what I wanted to hear 😢. Haven’t shot mine yet.

Yea I always hope they shoot fine without it but most need it in the end I’ve found. That mini chassis from Manners though was plug and play, sure makes it easy! Had a late night doing the bedding job but I’ll report back after it’s cured and I shoot it.

@Nine Banger how is your setup shooting? Seeing a need to bed like Qholum37

I'm about 100rounds in but I've been trying to find a load for 88 ELDM.

So 4 powders, charges laddering up....totally inconsistent loads....unexpected pressure...etc.

Seems like its shooting 2-3" at 300 which is as far as I shoot on the front porch.

Something I've noticed is its more suited to flat range work than the rokstok. It has the flat bottom and flat forend so it stays where you put it and doesn't roll. The butt shape is more comfortable to pinch with your rear fingers and a bag too.

If someone is wanting one of these and doesn’t mind the “issues” I posted earlier, I’d sell mine for what I paid for it. I’ll send it back for a full refund if not, but figured I’d offer it up here in case someone doesn’t want to wait 6 months for a new order.

Finally got to shoot the MT LR today. Muzzle rise was non existent in a 7 PRC. No bedding, barrel channel seems perfect...but I asked for Sendero and I think it's a 3B in it so I might not notice if it was off a bit. I had to zero the scope first, set the zero stop, then shot a 10 round group that with an exception of 1 was right at .75". The 1 made it ~1.25" and was likely me. I'm not bedding it....

I agree with Nine Banger on the flats sitting where you put it vs the RS. The downside of that is when needing to rotate a bit, the flat makes it tougher. Where I was shooting today I needed to level up with a little rotation and the RS's rounded bottom requires less effort to do it.

My barrel inlet looks the same, I was surprised. Looks like a stockys inlet.

I shot mine yesterday and it’s noticeably less movement at the shot. Grouping performed within what the gun was doing prior. I have shot better groups with the factory but I suspect with more shooting I can improve these

Correction on the previous. After looking at it closely, the barrel is closer to the left side of the channel of my stock.

The stock for my Kelbly looks perfect, no issues with barrel channel. I still don’t t have my bottom metal in hand for my Tikka, but loose fit looks like it leans a little left as well. Not an issue with the current CTR profile since I had them make it for a proof sendero, but I’d imagine my proof barrel will contact.
