McMillan Mountain Tracker LR - Tikka T3 Dev Project

This keeps being stated, but the Bravo and these McMillan grips are not the same. The nub is one difference, but the angle and the trigger reach are also quite different.

I am one of the people (like everyone else I have shot with), that despises the nub and gap.

Never said they were the same, but similar. KRG is a bit more vertical.

Measure from the bottom of the grip to the nub on the McM is ~ 2.45". The same on the KRG is ~ 2.8". Maybe it's my dainty hands, but they both feel fine to me.

Everyone's going to have a preference.

Here she is. Total weight as you see it 10.4 pounds. Finish has a very nice grippy texture. Stocks feels amazing and very substantial. It is about a 4oz weight penalty over my stockys but gives the feeling that is it’s much more which is great. Cheek weld and sight picture is money as expected. I might add a thin piece of foam as I prefer the feel but do not need to for height. Trigger reach is very comfortable(average hands) and noticeably shorter than stockys. Nub is primo 👌

I believe they changed the CTR bottom metals at some point. My T3X bottom metal was slightly bigger than the inlet in my father in laws factory CTR stock he gave me. It fit but it was super tight.

I'll see what they say about it. Definitely a possibility.

Here's the inlet - you can see at the front action screw, this area is depressed (which matches the slightly raised portion of the standard bottom metal). Also the notch for the mag release.

CTR bottom metal is flat in that area and does not have the notch for mag release up front.

Not a massive issue, but going to an aluminum bottom metal is ~$150 plus additional for mags, instead of using my current CTR bottom metal/mags.

I just got mine.

Had to meet the UPS driver out on the open road to get it signed for. I bet they have more stocks returned to their shop that have to be reshipped than stolen.

Initial observations:
- I haven't noticed anyone mention how fat the grip is.
- The fore end has a Minecraft style chopped end.
- fit and finish is great. No gouges or pock marks anywhere like Rokstok.

I'll put an action in it and shoot it asap and report back.

I recall some huffing and puffing about the dev deposit from folks that probably won't have one of these anytime soon. This call tag they left taped in the barrel channel indicates they did hook us up. RUSH RUSH RUSH.

I had to cut the tab off factory bottom metal.

I did not have to file down the rear action screw like I did with Rokstoks.

The KRG and McMillan feel similarly substantial but they feel pretty different but both very good. The KRG is straight tapered and longer where the McMillan has a lot more curves and shape to the grip. The McMillan feels like an improved version of the Stockys VG. I have listed the below in order of best to worst feel to me. They are all pretty good though except the Tikka Horizontal. It’s very close between KRG and McMillan. The McMillan is easier to hold so I’d say it’s better for hunting but the Bravo is easier to have a very relaxed grip on so better for PRS and heavily supported and balanced positional shooting. The nub is also very different between them. The nub in the McMillan I actually index off of where on the Bravo it’s higher so I don’t even touch it. I could see how if you had really fat fingers the nub could be a problem on the McMillan but it’s perfect for me.

Max Grip widths:
McMillan Mountain Tracker LR 1.97”
KRG Bravo 1.87”
Stockys Tikka VG 1.93”
Grayboe Phoenix 2 1.77”
Tikka Vertical Grip 1.70”
Tikka Horizontal Grip 1.56”

Got mine today and am pleased so far! I did open up the barrel channel as it was a bit too tight for my liking. I asked McMillan early on how much clearance they put in there but they skipped over that question. A little time with a socket wrapped in sandpaper and my .810 taperless fits nicely now. I love all the features of this stock everything feels very good and fit/finish is excellent. I think this is gonna be a winner! Gonna shoot it here in a bit without bedding and see how she does.

I also ever so slightly opened up the channel on mine right in the front.

Shot a 10 shot group tonight without bedding and my first and last shot were out of the norm for this rifle but the other 8 were right in there around 3/4” where it usually is. Had a bobcat walk out into my shooting lane between shots 9 and 10 which was pretty cool! God I love suppressors!

Is everyone else bedding these? I’ll probably shoot another 10 shot group tomorrow and see if it settles in.

I won’t bed mine unless it’s needed. If only life would give me a break to get to the range.
