Wife is having surgery on her neck end of this month and will be laid up for a week or two in September and some work obligations have me traveling over the time I had planned.

I’ll have to live through the stories here this fall and catch it next year.

Wishing the very best for your wife's surgery and prayers for complete healing. I missed last year, you will survive but it really is a bummer. Lots of good elk hunting videos to help you pass the time.

I was in your shoes in 2017, way I dealt with it was to put any hunting thoughts out of my mind, like it didn’t even exist.
And I watched more football than ordinary if that’s possible.
And I kept it in perspective by imagining the much worse situations in life that I’ve found myself in, or that friends have had to deal with....and by comparison it’s a walk in the park.

Hopefully a speedy recovery for your other half. I’m sure there will be lots of great stories in coming weeks and months

If rifle is workable with your family situation, shift and pick up a rifle. Only so many hunting seasons. That said, family comes first. Feeling for you.
