The only federal aid I'm aware of that states receive for wildlife is Pittman Robertson and dingell Johnson funding which is paid by excise taxes on hunting and fishing equipment. Not even from the taxpayers, but a self funded and imposed tax.
Please tell me your really not that ignorant?Do the millions in federal taxpayer funds that go to Wyoming DOT for things like wildlife crossings not count? Come on…

Should have had wildlife crossings from the get-go...not Wyoming's problem the feds screwed that up.

It’s almost like non-residents account for a quantitive amount of wildlife vehicle collisions…….

I think selling public lands is a terrible idea... but many in this thread are correct in that the average American wouldn't mind if the majority of BLM was sold. The only voices keeping BLM land off the sale blocks are hunters- the vast majority of which are non-residents. National Forests are a different thing all together. Those lands hold meaning to a larger % of the population no matter where you reside. It is an interesting angle to use as a bargaining chip though. One that obviously caught Buzz's attention...

Thing is, if you sell off those BLM lands that'll block access to a majority of NF lands. Cue the outrage from the nonresidents once they show up to do anything on NF land.... and can't access it

Oh the horror when you really think about how much time they spend in their life time needing that access. I’m sure roadway easements could be built into the sale of these lands.

If there isn’t a road, doubt 99% of USFS users even go there today. I bet most tourist that even go to these lands are like most NR hunters and barely go far from a road or they stay on established trails.

Spend a summer weekend in the Bighorn Mtns and get back to us on the 20%. Besides that do you think that our country's population will remain static and won't increase over time?
I've spent some time in the Bighorns during the summer. The entire place is filled with trailers with WY plates, many that are obviously there for the summer with wood piles, satellite dishes, etc. No regard what-so-ever for national forest 14 day limits on a site.
Just another example of resident entitlement on federally owned public land using what belongs to all of us as their personal summer home away from home.

While I'm at it, Wyoming is 48% federal land. I keep hearing how residents are entitled to so much more because they live and pay taxes there. What taxes?
There is no state tax. One of the lowest property tax rates in the country. 4% sales tax, again one of the lowest in the country. Game & Fish is dependant on NR dollars to keep afloat.
Federal dollars, oil & mineral income (which we all ultimately pay for) is what keeps your state running. Yet you want to shut us all out.
How is that different than people who suck up the vast majority of social services in our country without paying their share?
Don't get me won't, I don't have a problem with residents getting the majority of the tags. But the system is getting out of whack, and when the rest of us are left with nothing we aren't going to want to continue paying for it.

Don’t forget Federal funds make up a substantial percentage of it’s overall state budget, not just F&G are heavily funded by NR.

True, so your saying the other 329,500,000 people should have a say on federal lands in WY and how to manage them or keep them. Wonder how many are effected by corner crossing issues.

I actually wonder what the percentage is of our population that knows they even have this right, my guess would be 80% have no clue outside of national parks and BLM does not stand for federal lands to the majority, just a guess, could be completely wrong.

But that is 100% true, if we can get to them we can be on them, wait so there is no land locked federal lands in WY, then why even bother with corner crossing as an issue if we aren’t shut out?

Not shut out. Just don't have the same rights to use them. The vast majority of people that use federal land have no need to see, use or pay for the 90% of public lands that residents want to keep as your personal private hunting grounds. Between not being able to hunt and struggling just to be able to find campsites because the locals have their camps set up on "their" spot for the entire summer what exactly are we getting in exchange for paying for those lands? Don't even get me started on the stupidity of the wilderness rules.

I've always been a big advocate of keeping public lands public. But when you shut us out of a reasonable chance to ever use them in my lifetime I've had enough. Pay for them yourself. And fight your own forest fires while you're at it.

I know a lot of guys are upset right now but we need to be really careful what we ask for. The loss of some hunting tags sucks for me and thousands of other non-residents but the permanent loss of public land would be terrible for all future generations.

Hunting elk out of state may be something my grandkids never experience but I sure hope they are free to back pack in to camp and/or fly fish some of the areas I did as a kid.

I think a lot of you are looking at this as leverage but the scary thing is many of you are right. The average American probably doesn't give a hoot about some yellow squares on a map in a place they never intend on going.

Those here who are non- residents I suggest you go to every hunting site that you visit and start threads and discussion pertaining to western state lobbying and how it is adversely non -resident opportunity to hunt elk/ muledeer . Most are not aware of the worsening behind the scenes push to limit their opportunity to hunt western big game. Hit the whitetail hunter sites . Ask them how they like paying their private leases to have access to hunt while resident western hunters are enjoying them footing the bill for federal land with their tax dollars. Encourage pushback and ideas . If something doesn't change its over. Send them to rokslde

Absolutely they have a say on federal lands, why wouldn't they?

It's very common to receive written comments on proposed actions related to federal land management like forest plans, RMPs, EAs, EISs, travel plans, etc etc from people all around the country.

I also suggest that you way under-estimate what the general public is aware of regarding public lands. Over 6 million people visited Wyoming public lands last year. That's just Wyoming.

Even though many southern, Midwest, and eastern states have less public lands they are also visited by millions of people a year.

In the last decade there has been a substantial uptick in federal public land use...and it seems to grow more each year.

Good shit sells itself....

Make sure you're honest in what they pay...1/4 of 1% of the national budget.

Not even a rounding error in defense spending.

For that they have access to 640 million acres...I take that deal all day long. Most bang for the buck I get for my tax expenditure.
