Wonder how they got it so light weight if it is 3 layer?
Was thinking the same thing. My guess is that they omitted the stretch and any features out details from the other lines. If you look at the waistband (they took down the catalog so you can't) it looks very minimalist, almost like a piece of shock cord in a channel.

As far as durability goes, I'm not saying that I expect it to tear easily, just along the lines of the industry standard at that price point. Hopefully I am pleasantly surprised. But I wouldn't expect you to say wear it every day for a year without blowing out a knee or something. I will be interested to see if they include pit and leg zips as those are features that are missing from many mid range sets.

three layers of 4-mil plastic? It doesn't say anything about breathability.

I kid.

The catalog I linked has since been taken down, so someone from Kuiu must have seen this thread and realized they left it accessible to a google search. It may not have been final, so some changes may still occur.

I too find the lightness odd, because their top-end NX ultra is 8.9 ounces. If that weight is correct, the only thing they can skimp on really is the WP/Br ratings and maybe it being quiet. If it's 10k/10k like a Poseidon jacket, that's similar I guess, but even that weighs almost 12 ounces without a full center zip. I'll watch the presentation to see what's clarified.

As far as cabela's space rain, I've been disappointed in some of their branded clothing. It's usually cut poorly and sizing can be hit or miss on a a lot of the items I've purchased or seen. Even their branded gear has been pretty weak and poor quality. Cabela's used to have a decent reputation, but since they were bought out and started making everything from flip flops to tractors, I think the accountants have been pinching pennies. If the Kuiu quality is present on these items, but they're sacrificing a few ounces or the super high end performance metrics, then I don't mind paying a few extra bucks over a cheaper knockoff. If they ever ship that is.

These woven pants would be great mid-spring turkey and scouting pants.

This is a very interesting move by Kuiu. Wouldn't be surprised to see this line in retail stores, which would be pretty smart seeing as the price points would sure steer people away from Sitka, Kryptek, etc while leaving the higher end stuff available online only.

It looks like the whole Kuiu website is down....

The forum has been down for a couple days. Also, right before they shut it down they made new rules and started removing single posts rather than entire threads for talking about other products without mentioning Kuiu. It'll be interesting to see what they come back with since they obviously don't like the idea of an open forum.

Wonder how they will compare to the kryptek Poseidon stuff, hopefully they'll have leg zips and if it has pit zips they'll be a leg up if it has similar durability. I like the durability of my kryptek, it packs down pretty good as well for limited use. The prices are very similar.

I wonder if there would be a price jump though if they did this?

The guys buying this stuff will eventually upgrade to the more expensive stuff. Smart move to generate more sales and give their premium line more exposure.

Btw, I believe it says full leg zips beside the rain pants in the picture.

Kuiu seems to be very heavily monitoring and moderating post on their site. Not sure why they don't like open discussion about all products as well as commnets about their own line ie., tents and backorder / supply issues.

I like their products and have more of Kuiu than I do of Frist Lite. But if they can't take constructive criticism and suggestions, shame on them.

Well I can't wait for my new FL Vest.

This is why i have sold all my KUIU gear. To many good options in the market, the more i buy of the other gear I realize only 1-2 items that KUIU makes is better.

^^^^^^ This ^^^^^^

Kuiu policing their open forum is most likely because they really have nothing else to do. Really!!! What are they doing? They have not been very busy shipping clothing or at least consistently busy. Maybe for a couple weeks until their shipment is sold out. I was wanting a Tiburon piece which they are still pumping on their site, but nothing is available.
As far as the policing their threads, this is a silly move. They should take and learn from their customers and what we have to say good or bad about kuiu line. Sitka for instance emailed me one day after I rated a Cap on the low scale on their site. They had a customer service email me asking to explain further my issue. I thought this was pretty impressive as to how fast they replied. I have not received an answer, or solution if there is one, but at least I know they are working on a solution. I hope Kuiu can do the same. I wish them luck because I really like their clothing, but it's time to get some product in guys. Stop introducing new lines when you cant even come close to keeping up. It's really a bad situation and has hurt them I believe.

Anyone able to get the Kuiu forum up and running? It's been down for 2 days now, the day after they posted their new Forum rules and gutted a bunch of posts.

I have mixed feelings on this as there were a lot of Kuiu haters on their forums that would jump on any pack thread and just say Kuiu packs suck, get SG or Exo. No constructive criticism there and I did find the trolls annoying. That being said, I am all for an open forum for discussion and as long as people are open minded or comparative it is usually very helpful. It's the trolls that come in and say "buy Exo, everything else is crap" that don't contribute to the conversation and I can see why they would want to remove them. There have really only been a couple of threads that have been moderated and the problem is that they were the wrong ones. There were threats and comments that went way over the line that were not addressed, but a thread on Exo packs or something got deleted. The moderators only come through once in a blue moon on look at the top couple threads. Look at it this way, would you want someone coming to your place of business and telling people not to buy your stuff and to go somewhere else because their stuff's better.

As far as not taking constructive criticism, I disagree. Quite often have they addressed constructive criticism; often not directly, but look at the new hats. Not once did I see them acknowledge publicly that their hats were too small, but all of a sudden properly sized hats pop up on father's day and on sale at that. My only complaint here is that they aren't as engaging on the forum about things like this, but then you are publicly admitting that the thing you are currently selling has problems, which is also bad business.
