We should be talking about similar weight/functioning items here I think when assessing and being critical of the Teton gear. Show me the 30,000/40,000 jacket in the 6-12 oz range for "a little over" $100. I really want to know, because I will likely buy that jacket and I am guessing that others would be interested also. I just haven't seen anything like that yet. I saw that you mentioned the MH Ampato, which looks like a great jacket, but that is 18 oz, not camo, and $175+.
If not being camo is a deal breaker for you I don't know if I can help you. I personally am fine with an earth tone jacket. I bought my Ampato off STP for 126.46 shipped. I get emails with codes 35-40% off all the time. You're right about the weight on the Ampato, but for me I'd personally prefer to carry that extra weight to potentially stay 3-4 times dryer. It's actually the exact same weight as the Chugach.

Right now there are MH Dry Q Evap jackets on STP for $93.24 8oz. 20k/15k rating.....but not camo
and also a MH Dry Q elite Quasar for 84.46 it weights 12 oz and is 40k/30k rated....but also not camo and almost sold out.

If you would like a promo code for STP shoot me a pm and I will give you one, or you can just sign up for their deal flyer online.

So you're a self appointed moderator now? A new line IS a business topic. You are off topic and do not have to read my posts nor are you the Rockslide Overlord. Know your role.

I love the product but they are hardly a tiny boutique business anymore. When Jason tells us Kuiu is bigger than any It's competitors that has to say something right there. Small they are not

While completely agree they are not small I find it VERY hard to believe they are anywhere close to sitka.

Anyone who has used Kuiu knows they make quality clothing. For me I'm willing to use a lesser product (if it even is that) in FL. I like the direction they are going, and I like the guys that run it.

I was gonna order a shirt or two but I'm not paying 10 bucks to ship it 3 hours away.

As far as the other bull shit on this thread. If You have not figured out that part of Kuiu's business model is to be out of stock of items then your a buffoon. They create an extreme want which for some people turns into a need to have, which creates a persona or mystique around the brand, which creates massive sell outs of anything that Kuiu drops. It's brilliant, he sells everything he buys in stock, sits on nothing so that cash is all liquid.
People that get fed up guess what, you step aside and 5 other guys clammer for your place in line. Not how I would want my business but it works, clearly.

Theses KUIU threads are a great teaching tool for the father of a couple of teenagers.

My constant advice to them in their many encounters in every day life is: "Consider the source."

From Jason's comments about how big they are, to the lovers and haters, it is really easy to see the different agendas.

Highly entertaining too!

Our friends over at Russian River Brewing have also figured this out as they have been running this model since before Kuiu was born. It has clearly worked for them as well.

I am not a hater of the product and own eight pieces now, for hot weather, severe hiking I prefer it...for other trips I use pieces here and there mixed with Sitka, FL and/or Nat Gear. Love the Kuiu products, hate the business model. My companies encourage and request feedback from customers frequently so we can improve our operations and better compete. Customer satisfaction is everything to us. We go out of my our to make spending easy for our customers. To suggest anything less is smarter is, as you say, "entertaining."

Nick and Jeff,
Thanks for the info. I've scanned those jackets you mentioned and will take another look more closely later. I get the STP deals and those look like some good options. I am fine with earth tones. I like that Montbell has the pit zips, but their colors are hideous, unless you are trying to be found in an avalanche. That MH Quasar looks like a great jacket/deal, except for the color remaining on STP. Will keep an eye out for an earth tone in XL in the Evap Capacitor and Super Light Plasmic as well. Thanks.

Sitka isn't that big, First lite is likely bigger per pieces sold. Profitabity is another story I'm assuming. Sitka is really killing themselves with their discounted athelete programs etc. Just look on here tell someone you paid full price for Sitka and they will tell you your eat up with the dumb arse.

In all reality Firt lite, Kuiu, Sitka, kryptek are all small. Until you own your own factory(or buy out production) you aren't a big boy.

Columbia, under armor, north face etc own(own production capacity)multiple factories.

Neither Kuiu, Sitka or Firstlight are mostly over 20mil. I've been wrong before though.

We will never know, but I would think sitka because of their different branches would be bigger on any scale, the majority of the country has zero use for Kuiu products or sitkas big game line. when you account that sitka is now basically a gore subsidiary I would imagine that also changes the landscape. Would be interesting to see the actual numbers though.

how many actual retail locations carry all three lines? Never seen BC, Duck and waterfall in one retail location on the floor for Sitka, not even Macks. Catalog sure but not on the floor. Whitetail line isn't that prominate and its an expensive product with lots and lots of competition. I bet migratory side is very tiny but most likely their largest margins.

Gore part is more of a hinderance then a help for Sitka now adays. Lots of people hate Gore. Grant it they get access to gore R&D but they also get to deal with Gore pushing down strict margins also
I'd love to see the numbers. I bet from a probability stand point Sitka is better but Kuiu more volume.

Numbers would be interesting for sure but that's not going to happen.

True, they have lost a lot of ground to Kuiu an FL. Which is great for us the consumer.

What did you order that wasn't in stock?

See for yourself. Look at their site today. The DCS jacket and Attack pants are 2 of their most popular items, The L, XL & XXL sized Verde DCS jackets are all backordered and every size of the Verde Attack pants is backordered. This is not unusual for Kuiu. It is unusual for their competitors to be backordered like this which (despite the beliefs of a few) does not serve Kuiu in a positive manner. Great UL camo if ya can get it.
