Man, I'm way behind this year but still confident I can catch up. I'll be hitting it hard this summer. The snow has been brutal this year really cutting into my trail miles as I just can't go as fast. On the bright side, it's been a great year for alpine skiing... Here's where I'm at through the 1st quarter of the year.

Trail Running Miles- 211
Hiking Miles- 53
Mtn. Biking Miles- 8
Total Trail Miles- 273 of 1,600 goal for the year
Total Elevation Gain- 54,200 of 250,000 goal for the year.

I got one mountain bike ride in when the ground was frozen and semi snow free. Now it's back to snow a covered mess everywhere. I'm not used to this in my area for this time of year. It makes what some of you guys deal with every year all the more impressive to me.

My march checkin is 186 running miles for the month. I held out good wotg the 100 pushups, sotups and squats. Added a pullup bar so i do those to but not 100. I backed off that last week cause i was getting a bit run down and knew i had my forst 50k today. For my abilities i crushed the 50k today. 4 hours 57 minutes. I was hoping for 5 hours with perfect trail conditions and if i was rolling at 100%. It rained the last two days and into this morning turning into snow but i felt 110% the whole run minus a 4 mile flatish section kicked my but a bit, but then fhad my best 6 miles at the end. Off to a good start for april. Good work to everyone else. Its still motivating seeing everyones success.

Turned 42 in December and got news from my doctor after Christmas that no person wants to hear.

I decided to get to it and went from a weight high of 2016 last year and about 206 in December. At only 5'8, I was overweight and I don't hunt worth a hoot being fat. I had always been in good shape until the last ten years or so.

My goal is to get down to 160 and chase elk or mule deer in the high country come September. Plus, I plan to do a high country backpack trip with my son in July and ride some of Iowa's Ragbrai Ride in the same month.

As of March 20, I have gone down to 174 so far and have perfected the diet, and am working hard on the workout portion. I walk 2-4 miles four days a week now and plan to add the Mountain Tough program to wrap it up for now.
Whats your diet like?

Starting to get in the pool for my half IM training.

Humbling to say the least!!! I can run a marathon but can barely swim 100 meters!! Thank goodness my wife is an excellent swimmer and teacher. She’s working with me and correcting my form and technique.

Goals for April: 120 miles running, 250 miles biking. And be able to swim 100 meters without dying!!

If I ever trained for a similar event swimming would be my downfall as well. They say it's the easiest part to do once you get comfortable with it but it would take some good coaching and a lot of practice to get me there and it's certainly not an area I focus on now. Good luck!

Good to see all of you doing well on your goals this spring!

I kept my small goal in mind and shifted around some of my jogging routes to prep for more uphill later in a route. My March ended with 142 jogging miles, about 60% road and 40% trail. Past years I have stopped after reaching a HM distance but this year I managed HM+ five times so far and it’s nice to have maintained that.
Yesterday was my birthday and I celebrated by hitting the forest road in the morning. Managed to jog the 15.6 miles without stopping so I met my “harder 25K“ goal. GoogleEarth says elevation gain was over 4000’ but I think it was closer to 2800’ and 95% of that was before the 13.2 mile mark.
Glad to have met my goal and am ready to reduce jogging as the weather warms and switch to hiking with some weight in a pack.

Keep after it everyone!

Check out Ruth Kazez's 0 to 1650. Even without a coach it got me from barely surviving a lap to swimming a mile straight. Maybe the most elegant fitness routine ever devised.

Late to the game, and also glad to see someone started one of these!

my goals are the following for 2023:

1. Be able to fit in 10 year old 33” waist jeans (been good for last 9 years but 3rd kid this past year has me pushing limits)

2.10 hr exercise per week; got the MTNTOUGH subscription

3. Get more sleep 7:30/night. Will be mostly done by Going sleep by 1030pm with no screen starting at 930. Maybe even sleep through the entire night (3 kids under 5). awake by 500 to exercise or begin work

4. 2200 total miles over all activities (400 hiking, 1400 biking, 300 running, 100 backcountry skiing, etc)

5. 3 summer weekends scouting

6. Leading to the Hunting trips 2 x 5 night (elk with bow) spot and stalk and 4 x 2 night (deer)

Thanks for this!! I started following that plan. 3 weeks into it and I can swim 400 m straight now and not feel like I’m dying!!

Today is last day of April. I’m heading out for a 30mile bike ride. That will put me at 127 miles ran and 278 biking miles this month so I will meet my goal.

Next month is 140 miles running, 300 miles on the bike and be able to swim 800m without stopping.

April was quite a roller coaster. Started off april 1st with my first 50k which went great, had a heavy cut back week then started to work on my down hills as thats a weak point, smoked my quads to the point they bothered me for two weeks. A week ago i did a small benifit 50k which went well. First time ever running with people so learned from a group that does 100 milers and finish towards the front. And ended it with a marathon distance training run that fired up the IT band. Luckily its a cut back week so i can focus on stretches and exercises to focus on that and hopefully be back going shortly.
Miles for april was 193.

April was a decent month for me and included a good mix of activities, including my first successful bear hunt. 140 trail miles and 22,000 ft. of vertical gain for the month but I ended it on a bit of a sour note. I had an old knee issue resurface a few months ago that just this last week really got bad to the point it's effecting not only my running and hiking, but just everyday living. I now think I have a torn meniscus and am scheduled for an MRI later this week. Hopefully I can get it repaired and get back on track. On the bright side, most of the trails around me are finally thawed out and ready for the Mountain Bike and so far that doesn't seem to be hurting the knee. Regardless of whether or not I need surgery it looks like I may be replacing trail running with the mountain bike for awhile. We'll see what the next few months hold. I need to do what it takes to get my knee healthy and back on track before the archery opener in August.

Here's my stats for the year so far:

Trail running miles: 289
Hiking Miles: 82
MTB. Miles: 42
Total trail miles: 413 of 1,600 goal for the year
Total Elevation Gain: 76,000 of 250,000 goal for the year
