That got me thinking of other effects of putting an accurate shot on game in addition to shift, for a scope that is non adjustable. I would think the max error would be the output of a calculator, JAT.

Longer range shooters, would a fixed parallax scope do as well for you at 500+ yds vs an adjustable parallax scope, if eye alignment was square, or whatever the term is?

With perfect eye alignment, parallax doesn't matter. I would say good eye alignment probably gives 1/2 the error. But that is a SWAG.

It’s not a big stretch. I see the guys who post “mine has never lost zero” all the time. Thousands of rounds and big game animals over 400 yards is not in their wheelhouse. Not stupid, just an observation. You may be the exemption.

I take the killing of big game far more seriously than shooting paper. If I only shot paper I wouldn’t care if my scope lost zero.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I have 4 leupolds and shoot probably more in a week than the average person shoots in 10 years. Ive went through over 4000 small rifle primers in the last year alone. I bought my last case in Oct of last year. Thats not counting large rifle or pistol.

They only one I ever had to re-zero was one where my sling broke and the rifle hit the ground. It was about 5 moa off. Tge ocular was actually dented. I re-zeroed it and kept hunting. Sent it in later.

Leupolds just plain work for what they are. Show me other scopes from 40 years ago that still work and hold zero. And hold their value. If they didn't then people wouldn't buy them. People speak with their wallets every day. I'm so glad you are "flexing on the poors" or at least you think you are. I'm sure NF is the only scope that works

Its the maximum error possible, and nowhere
near what people actually get.

Yes. A fixed parralax 10’ish X scope works just fine.

Owning 4 Leupolds is flexing on the poors, and this post says you have never been poor enough to know that. Back before I knew better, I always drooled over Leupolds, but they were out of my budget, thankfully I learned a few things before more than iron sights were affordable for me. Leupold, even their cheapest scope, is not a poor mans optic.

Buy the way, nice job creating a straw man, try grappling with the actual arguments next time (SWFA, Trijicon, Maven, S&B, and NF all make at least one scope known to work, some of them are n the low end Leupold price range).

Nearly every rifle was a custom, about half chassis, half stocked. The scopes were mostly Leopold mark5, a few NF.

Funny they have such bad equipment but he still hit the milk jug challenge at 1k , managed to hit at a mile, and had the smallest group in his class. All with a 6.5 needsmore and a mark 5.

I don't own a mark 5, but maybe I should.

A lot of people are using Mark 5's with good success. Most my friends (including some of the best competitive shooters in the US) shoot them and love them. It's not surprising to me at all that the shooting school is using them with good results.

I have also watched some of those same shooters check and adjust their zero every morning at matches. They aren't typically really far off, but two or three tenths is common.

I have been so tempted to buy a Mark 5 so many times but I've just watched too many people constantly need to adjust them.

I was a Redfield fan until the Army adopted the M24 (with the Leupold Ultra M2a) in 1988. They have not changed scopes and use newer versions for new developments. I never saw tracking/zero issues and use Leupolds regularly to this day. The exception is when I buy a used German rifle already fitted with a scope, typically Zeiss of Hensoldt.

I didn’t know leupolds had problems until I came to Rokslide. I’m not a competitive shooter but I like to send about 100 rounds a year through my .300 win mag and never had an issue. VX-3 LRP (I know I’m poor) on it for 5+ years now. Ranges from 200-1200

^^^^Not quite. I was a huge Leupold guy for a lot of years, never missed an animal due one...at least not that I know of. But like clockwork, every year or multiple times a year I would have to re-zero. For decades we've been told that this is just normal and what you do. Come to find out, its not. Switched my main rifles to Trijicon Credos and voila.... no more having to re-zero. Not sure how a claim can get made thats its "all in their heads" with documented proof. And btw the Tikka I own has a Leupold on it and not in UM rings, your ridiculous, emotional claim doesnt hold water. Shoot what you want, dont worry what other people shoot

It was the Leupold Ultra M3A, and then Mark 4 M3A. The fixed power Ultra’s and Mark 4 M3A scopes are not even in the same solar system as the variable power Mark 3/5/6’s that came after. The fixed power Mark 4’s (especially the M3A model) are some of the most solid and reliable scopes ever made- the variable power versions are junk comparatively.

I kept track of the zero on my mk5 for two years after missing an antelope and reading all the bad reviews of the mk5. I checked the zero often and 90% of the time it was riding in the back of my truck.

In that time, the scope never shifted in a detectable way until last weekend. I was riding around in a side by side for three days straight the scope lost zero. 1/2” high at 100 yards when I checked zero.

We are not so different. We both shoot a lot. And we both have had leupolds that don’t hold zero when dropped.

Just don’t understand how I’m flexing on the poor. Leupold makes some damn expensive scopes.

My leupold that lost zero and cost me a giant deer cost more than the nightforce I replaced it with.

Had the scope taken a fall or just was that much off from day in, day out shift? Can you recall what distance was the shot? Always interested to know the background. It's a shame to lose a big one or any for that matter. I gather to a miss-hit, and he got away.
