Informal Cold Bore Challenge

Full disclosure: I shot a different rifle in a different location this morning. Went to work and came home. There's a biblical joke in here somewhere about what constitutes a "day".

I set up on my gong to troubleshoot a new scope. Gave up on that and shot my trainer.

580 yards. Slight cross wind. 77gr IMI 223. IMG_8138.jpeg

Elevation 4.7 mil
Left .3 mil

Prone. Bino harness as rear rest. Funky body position with the short bed truck.

This clip is yesterday. Work took me near the 1k yd range i shoot at sometimes. Had a break in the schedule so i decided to spend a couple of hours shooting at longer distance. Other than this cold bore shot, it was a decent morning. This is my first shot of the morning. 600yds from prone with my 6.5 cm. Actually shot a 3 shot group that was right around a minute immediately after this, but completely whiffed this shot.

Cold bore today was shot with a couple different rifles.

First shot of the day - miss right side didn't call for enough wind.

Ruger m77 .243 95 gr NBT
10" plate @ 574 yards

Second rifle, ruger American .223 73 eldm 10"x4" triangle @ 438 yards - missed on the first shot cause I wasn't paying attention and dialed for a different target. Good wind call, missed low. Made a correction for the right range and hit it on the second shot.

Prone from backpack, ultralight rear bag.
Another day for improvement!

Optic - leupold vx3 HD 3.5-10
Rings - warne mountain tech

Hit.

Was able to get out and shoot today. I haven't shot this rifle since 2nd season in CO this year. This was the rifle I had the rodeo with on a bull. I had no idea if the zero had held since or not.

Load i am shooting today is 180g Barnes ttsx over h4831 ssc at about 3k fps.
Shot is 300 yds from prone with rear support. Shot a four shot group into a big plate to confirm zero shift. Shots were high but still on the plate. Zero definitely shifted. I will need to go back through mounting setup ans be sure everything is degreased and locked down. Still on the plate though for the 1st one.

Had some power and well issues at one of the properties that I manage which prevented me from getting any shooting in. Back at it today though.

I want to get better at shooting in real-ish hunting scenarios. So today I started with my brother’s pack on and buckled to seated by a rock. Target was 295 yards. It took me 42 seconds which is way too long. I had initially thought that I could use the pack as a rest rest but it was too tall so i had to just shoot off the rock. My positioning was poor but I got the impact. Still lots to work on. Don’t laugh! 😆
