Idaho NR Draw Bill… thoughts?

All these internet opinions and predictions rarely come true. They said no one would buy the tags when they raised the price but look at the demand now. As long as demand outstrips the supply, it will be a mess. I don't see the upside for IDFG to change it or try to make everyone happy. Haters going to hate and whiners going to whine.

I agree. There will be even more complaining when they can’t draw every year. At least this way it’s one day and done for IDFG unlike the draw.

It’s not a casino. It’s a hunt and hunters will just add it to their list and apply if it’s that easy. Right now it’s a OTC system and you can make it work to your advantage if you put in the work. It’s fun and I look forward to it each year. If they change it to just an another simple draw I guarantee a lot more people will apply than are currently getting tags.

If you don't like the process, don't apply. It really is that simple. IDFG sure doesn't care, the tags will sell regardless. There's a few states that I don't apply in because I don't like their process but their game dept sure as hell isn't going bankrupt because of me.

Being assigned random numbers for a limited amount of opportunities, that you must be present to win, with multiple strategies to try to beat the house is a whole heck of lot more like a casino than buying Tylenol.

I’ve never been to a casino but if you can win every time you go like you can with the OTC NR Idaho tags I guess I should quit my job and start going to casinos.

If this passes there will be unintended consequences, and a whole new set of complaints from those that don't get tags.

-How will leftovers or returned tags be reallocated? 2nd drawing? Will second tag purchases still be an option after August 1?

-Will this be integrated with the controlled hunt drawing in May and prevent NR from applying for both general, and controlled seasons?

-Will there be wait periods for successful applicants? Meaning that even lucky NRs will not be able to get a tag every year. Successful controlled hunt drawing applicants currently have to wait a year before applying again.

-How will this affect outfitter tag allocations? The bill states "all" NR tags have to be allocated by drawing.

If I was a NR I would prefer that they improve the current system rather than go to a draw. Only allow purchasing for immediate family; Prevent the use of multiple devices; make all sales happen through the same portal (online); don't allow outfitters to purchase tags from the general OTC tag pool.

All great points. I would think that IOGA would be pitching a fit about this as it throws any type of planning right out the window.

I can see that being a weird spot for them since vast majority of outfitters are residents. I’m also sure they will all claim way more use than actual or suddenly find clients they forgot about to try and secure themselves more tags

I think they should switch to in person OTC sales only , make it actually over the counter . Tags would last a lot longer and give anyone who wants to make the trip a fair chance

They used to do a FCFS on left over controlled hunts at vendors. It was an absolute sh!? show! I would imagine this would similar x1000!

I don’t think you realize how many people are buying tags and how little vendors make off of these sales. It’d be a shit show and not worth it to vendors.

I would guess it won't change much if they draw the same time as the controlled hunts Don't know why that would change tags stay the same just the way they issue them will be different

selfishly I hope anyways I don't wast my time with idaho general anymore but always apply for the limited quota if the guys that want to draw the general tags have to apply for that and can't apply for the limited quota stuff that will help me maybe and residents also?

Doesn't idaho outfitters have a deal now where they get a certian number of outfitter tags for limited quota areas? I am willing to bet the same thing will happen with general areas

As a nr that just seams like more problems but if they wanted to go that route they should make nr choose buy a general tag or apply for a limited quota not both.

At least it appears the common theme among residents and NR is for it to be a random draw, not a point system. The system we have now would/could possibly work, but I doubt the commission will put the effort into fixing or coming up with solutions on to fix it. (Which they havent)

The commissioners don’t want to change it. Go and watch the commissioners meeting on Jan 25th. They are told by IFG staff that sales on Dec 1st were a success. The commissioners think that it is “cool” that Idaho still offers otc tags to NR’s. The portion about NR tag sales starts at about 2:20.00 into it.

Moyle doesn’t give 2 shits about helping NR’s or IFG. If he introduces something , it’s always to his benefit.

Yeah, sadly, just the rookies use multiple devices. There are some who use 1 device and have dozens (or more) of spots.

That's not the only way to game it either.
