Idaho NR deer tags Sold Out

If you were still on the fence, you can step off now. IDFG reporting regular deer tags are gone as of today, and only deer tags left are whitetail tags.

Just saw that on Facebook, about 2 months earlier than last year. I guess everyone figured that's a good way to social distance yourself. Bought mine back in May.

I still want people to try and defend the position that people didn't use stimulus checks to buy deer and elk tags. They absolutely did. I know a bunch of guys that told me that made it an easy sell to their wives.

I am betting that people did as well. I am also assuming that next year with no "free money" and price increases that they won't sell out as quickly. Or at all in the case of deer. Time will tell.

Western big game is getting pretty darn popular. OTC options are tougher and tougher.

When Utah went to all draw for deer, that put thousands more hunters in the market for OTC tags, and with Colorado leftovers a hot commodity, ten years later and here we are.

However for a little history on this, I remember when the non-resident quota for ID deer was met in the first week they went on sale of December of the previous year. And that was before the Internet (early 90’s before 92/93 die off and flip-flop of deer n elk seasons). So honestly, this is nothing new. Just another demographic shift. I’d guess there will be more.

Good points. Same thing with elk tags in the 90s. The Frank and other wilderness was rockin and started to have some high hunter numbers. The absence of OTC most anywhere has to have some new efforts I would imagine. Constantly evolving.

So much for picking up a second deer tag in Aug. Oh well good thing I drew a premium tag this year. Idaho needs to jack the price up if its going to sell out so quickly. Or truth be told all rifle (any weapon season)should go to a draw for NR. With a small percentage allocated to NR. Keep the resident tags as over the counter. All elk zones should be capped for NR hunters. It has forced folks from out of State to hunt my unit and over crowd it lol.

Next year; 55% increase in nr elk tag prices, increased deer tag price, increased lic price, increased archery stamp price, limits on nr tags in various zones.

Idaho doesn't owe you a second deer tag either, that's a luxury. I guess you've been oblivious to the changes that are coming down the pipe regarding tags. Sorry, it isn't NR overrunning the state, it's new residents that are crowding all the units. People aren't going to like it, but IDFG is going to have to address the resident surge to take care of overcrowding in all of the zones. NR numbers have been capped on total numbers of tags for a long time.

I'm still a firm believer that in ANY unit. You can get away from people. I do it every single year in both units that Eastmans blew up in their magazine for both deer and elk.

How does a draw make it not a rich man's game? Draws cost more money, not less..

It took more than 6 months for the tags to sell out. There is more demand for the tags than there has been, for sure, but there isn't enough demand to need a draw. The cap handles that just fine. Any non-resident who wants to hunt Idaho can right now.
