I think the biggest thing that bothers me is letting people buy tags in person with other people's info.
The fact that you can make a phone call and pay a guy to take your info and buy a tag for you and 50 other people at an undisclosed outdoors vendor before they ever go online is a huge problem.
Guy in front of my buddy flew in from MA just to buy an elk tag, was flying home at 2pm. No family to see, nothing like that. Airfare and hotel just to buy a NR tag. Two guys behind him flew in from Kansas, same deal. They all got the tags they wanted. Just, wow. Talk about expensive hunts.
100%. The few marketing gurus in the Idaho legislature would never change this NR pandemonium process. It creates false demand.
No, Rokslide, Instagram, Youtube, Facebook, GoHunt, Huntin Fool, etc. are responsible for that.
The residents getting paid by non res hunters to buy them a tag have screwed that option.Looks like I am flying out to Idaho next December.
But others were. Alot of others. Similar to this year, on this very forum. Not sure what a resolution would be. A better system perhaps. Not trying to be a dick. Im genuinely curious. What would have expected them to do? issue another tag for the unit you wanted? whats a resolution for that?
That obviously would suck but technology is technology and only so much is in their hands if you get kicked out while others didnt.
One dude buying 40 tags is unreal dude. In no world does that make sense unless you're an outfitter. 2 dudes...65 tags. IncredibleThe residents getting paid by non res hunters to buy them a tag have screwed that option.
I saw Multiple residents buying 5 tags or more for non res and getting paid to do it.
A F of an F resident was at an out of the way license vendor and ended up #3 in line. First guy bought 40 tags, second guy bought 25….he got nuthin for his buddy.
They won’t fix the system as long as tags keep selling out. The legislature can’t properly fund state programs, until non residents stop buying Idaho tags due to the tag buying system, they won’t invest money to fix it.But others were. Alot of others. During one of the commission meetings last spring, they came right out and said they don’t want to change. They are still proud to be able to say that Idaho still offers NR OTC tags. They won’t fix the system as long as tags keep selling out. Ha, I meant going to a “more fair” system like having everyone buy tags online or not being able to buy tags for someone else. Even a tag buying system that doesnt crash on people.During one of the commission meetings last spring, they came right out and said they don’t want to change. They are still proud to be able to say that Idaho still offers NR OTC tags.
Copy that. I wonder what that system looks like though? The proxy buying sure looks like it could be nipped.Ha, I meant going to a “more fair” system like having everyone buy tags online or not being able to buy tags for someone else. Even a tag buying system that doesnt crash on people.
My suggestion would be to move it all online and not allow multiple logins with the same license number. Have to buy a hunting license before you can buy a tag. I bought a tag for my dad this year but I would give that up if it meant people like outfitters weren’t buying tags for clients for a fee.Copy that. I wonder what that system looks like though? Those guys from the coast were there way early.Stood in line up here trying to get my buddy a desirable archery tag so he could go hunting with me. Wish I had gotten to the store an hour earlier because the tag we wanted sold out before when I was only two back from the front. I can still get it if I want it but I will be hunting it alone, kinda stinks. I was floored that several people from Western WA and Oregon drove up to stand in line in a small town general store in N. Idaho. People in front of me just wanted Panhandle Tags. Told them they probably would have been fine not driving from Western WA but they didn't want to chance it.
Crazy. My buddy from Texas and I are hoping to draw in another western state if we are gonna do a hunt together next year. I am thankful I can hunt here on resident tag, little peeved at the Idaho system. Very, very thankful I get to live in an elk state. Those of y'all that don't and want to hunt elk every year have it rough. Only way to do it I guess is rotate states, or what little is left of CO general.
I took the day off work and bought fuel, food some goodies at BUCK and shelled out my $1200.00.Think of the money Idaho would bring in if you had to fly in and buy your own tag in person
