How to end NR Wyoming wilderness ban?

I'm kinda surprised there isn't Wyoming residents posting WTS Friendship for a week threads. If you already had a hunt planned in a wilderness area then you could make a little extra dough. Just tell them you're not packing anything out for them.

That’s been talked about in the countless threads just like this one before; befriend a WY resident instead of antagonizing them but some people would rather bitch about something that will never affect them because they can’t physically get into the WY wilderness anyway.

I don't doubt you but this is the first time I remember hearing someone got ticketed.

It's a law the Wyoming Outfitters and Guides Association strongly support and they still have an undue influence in the state. I would rather compete with a diy non res who may or may not know the country and what they're doing vs an outfitter with 5 generations of knowledge, along with cooks, wranglers, and Guides to facilitate the hunt. There's some good wilderness areas for some species but some wilderness is pretty subpar hunting. I bet 99% of big deer are non wilderness bucks.

I hunt WY with a resident. Sometimes we hunt in the wilderness. Most times, not. Its not magic land and not worth me getting bent about the rule. I know many residents that don't hunt wilderness and are successful.

From a legal perspective, the way I see it, the state does not have authority to regulate federal lands. If the state issues a nonresident a tag, the state cannot dictate he/she hunt any federal land area with a guide. But, as I'm sure we are all aware, many states do what they want, despite their legal limitations. If they enforce this, sooner or later someone will fight it, and very likely win.

I’d be willing to start a go fund me and start hunting wilderness areas in Wyoming you guys just fund my go fund me so I can take in the case !

This would take some amount of time, probably years, to organize and its definitely the long game, but short of someone will the financial backing willing to take on the legal burden of challenging this and getting it to the federal appeals level (which would also take years), simply starve the outfitters that service the wilderness areas out of business with an awareness campaign and boycott that follows. This may not even get the regulation changed, but it sure is some retribution.

This is my thought as well if we could raise enough awareness, and bring people to see how corrupt this is for the state of Wyoming to do we might would have a chance, but the problem is the vast majority of people who use guides to go on guided hunts Are fat, cat rich guys who don’t care or pay attention to things enough in the outdoor world to really know they are there for a 10 second picture most of the time to brag to everyone how bad ass they are from their guided hunt obviously not saying everyone who does the guided hunt is like this, but I believe this is a vast majority, and therefore we will have a hard time rallying the troops behind this idea

There’s a new one in AK for 2025, GUIDED ONLY caribou tags. I like the concept, I’ll be pushing for Statewide regulation for all NR caribou hunters to go guided. This is the first step to getting back MY alaska!

That one hurt residents and pisses me off big time. Before this there was no guarantee for any NR tags on that hunt it was just the straight random draw, but now there's a guaranteed 14.67% of total tags going to NRs, with half requiring a guide. Pure horseshit and guide welfare.

I doubt it. Corner crossing was a pretty gray area interpretation of trespassing statute. This is a law that has been upheld in the appellate courts. Big difference.

Yes…so corrupt to limit the activities one can do on 5 percent of the states public land. This should really rally people to the cause. If this is corruption let’s triage it with the corruption that blatantly occurs outside of this minor inconvenience…I’m guessing it would be pretty far down the list on what states are doing that can be classified as “corrupt.”

There’s no doubt it’s a stupid law and one that both provides outfitters guarantees while providing residents a place off limits to NR. Corrupt? Hmm, given all the other opportunities WY offers I think that’s a little much.

I’m going to hunt the wilderness with a WY NR friend next year. Go meet some people if the wilderness areas are that crucial.

I've got to completely disagree. There was no grey area in the corner crossing case, as planes fly over private daily = no harm, necessary, legal. This case is also clear as indicated in the court dissent that was posted, but the violations are broader than that court dissent IMNSHO. But hey, you're entitled to your opinion. But time will tell.
