Dawn on me today, I upgrade my Pse every 5 years, my new one is $2400 retail, but I shoot the same classic model 70s for 60 years? Tomorrow I am getting a 6.5prc bagara, solid glass and use it for my sheep hunt. Thx to the honest input, you guys pushed me over the edge to upgrade 60 years. Thx.

I was only concerned with your grasp of ballistics.

Buying a magnetospeed or labradar, 50 boxes of the same lot ammunition, and a free ballistics app would, in my opinion, be a better step before a new rifle.

you didn't know? a hunt can only be successful when done the rokslide approved way. the world as we know it will crumble, BOAL's will go missing, all units and honey holes will be revealed, everyone will only own creedmoors and shoot 2000 yds, bad stuff I tell ya.
luckily, he changed his setup, so we are all safe for now. whew, close one.

I would recommend using a good ballistics calculator that can adjust for different altitudes. It will get you close to where you need to be but checking your gun when you are near that 12,000 ft altitude will confirm everything for you.

Already bought 5 boxes.
Hopefully 5 different boxes to find what it likes. Then go back and buy 20 boxes of that stuff.

Ammo gets discontinued. Components change between lots. Different lots can shoot very differently. It sucks to get the gun shooting good and build confidence only to run out of ammo, go to the store for more and either find none or find a new lot that won’t shoot and have to start all over again. Happens frequently in this new world of component shortages.

Yeah I hope that was a joke :censored:
kinda sorry to hear the model 70 270 didn’t make the cut
my favorite rifle I got is a M70 featherweight 270 that’s a killer using Norma oryx 130gr and a Burris signature 2-12x
My son will carry it as my backup. Gotta break in the 6.5prc.

Figured. That doesn’t really tell you anything useful. If you want to put together a dope chart for shooting to 500 yards, you need to know the actual velocity that load shoots out of your rifle.
I didn’t read the whole thread but, here’s my experience on shooting Copper monolithic bullets. If the gun has fouling in it, it’s going to take a good cleaning to get the best grouping. And, unless you are shooting a 24” barrel, you aren’t getting anywhere close to 2900 fps with an all copier bullet.

If you have no desire to stretch it out, clean it good and get it copper fouled with a couple shots at a 200 yard zero. Ballistics aren’t required.

What? My 6.5 PRC will shoot about 3100 FPS with a copper bullet out of an 22 inch barrel.

Op, if you’re only gonna bang flop, 200 yd zero is fine. If you want to do it properly, and you bought a new gun for this, right?, Zero dead on at 100 and learn to use your dials.
