Nope, don't feel any need for one, do have a semi auto shotgun though.

Don't own any and have no plans to. I don't have any interest in hunting with one and the notion that I'd ever defeat a "tyrannical" government with one is humorous, in my opinion. If that time comes, the people of this country will have the military on their side, not the other way around.

Sorry Mr ATF man, I only have break actions and bolt guns used for hunting rabbits but if I did own semi's it would be to fight tyranny as instructed by our founding fathers.

Again, what is tyranny? And at what point do you, personally, start stacking bodies?

Tyranny or anarchy or (insert whatever scenario you wish), if the lives and safety of my family and/or myself are in peril there will be swift and furious action on my part. Current examples would be what happened in Venezuala, what happened in Portland if we had mistakenly walked through, or any number of likely never heard of incidents had we randomly been present.

Tell that to the folks in Venezuela... Or Syria.. Or any number of countries.

As for defeating a tyanical govt., I have no delusions of doing so either, but an armed citizenry is a nice reality check on a govt run amok. And if things got wierd, and the govt were busy trying to maintain hold/control, I'd like the average unchecked asswipe to know that it might be easier to pick on someone a few houses down than the one that just blew his kneecap off.

Until then, they can sit quietly in the safe, where I hope they'll always stay.

That’s self defense. Tyranny and anarchy are not fungible.

Tyranny is specifically a cruel abuse/overreach of power. I’m just trying to figure out, in the US, today, where people’s lines are.

So now we’ve established that tyranny is a moving line, definable by the individual. So, provided you or your family are not involved, the govt may act at will with no response from you. Got it.

Apparently Donne got it wrong...

“When government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny." Thomas Jefferson.... one of those crazy founding fathers.

I know many people who fear the government, should they act?

By the way, the city council in Jefferson’s home town just voted to no longer celebrate his birthday.

I think those people you say fear their government, don’t actually have a grasp on fear in the tangible sense of the word. Fear is what the Jewish felt during nazi held Germany.

Let me guess, they did that because he was a slave owner.

Well, as we have just seen with tyranny, fear is a moving target. We are (supposedly) in a post-modern world, so hey, who’s to argue anymore.

Essentially yes, because he was a slave owner. I’ve heard people in charlottesville refer to Jefferson as “the master on the hill,” because Monticello overlooks the city. They elected a “social-democrat” to city council - see what happens??

You asked where the line was in the singular possessive, so individual answers would be expected.

Fear is different for everyone. The government should fear their people. My example is one in which people should defend themselves like you asked for. Is that the one and only time, no.

I've always viewed my guns as a tool. That means they aren't flashy or overly expensive. Accurate bolt actions on synthetic stock platforms. Pump shotgun for reliability. Muzzleloader because SC the hunting seasons are broken up. I haven't come across the situation where I personally felt like I needed a semi auto long rifle.

As others have mentioned, they have come across that situation/feeling. I do think semi-autos are sweet looking platforms.

Have a few.
Started with a marlin .22 as a kid. Purchased a Glock in my early 20’s for defense. Picked up various rifles and shotguns over the years.
Never thought about the AR until a few years ago when they were hard to get. A co-worker asked me where he could find one because thy were sold out everywhere. The only thing affordable I could find was a stripped lower. I looked into how hard it is to build one and I was hooked.
If you like to tinker with stuff it is the perfect gun to have. You are able to fully strip, rebuild and modify yourself without much of an investment in tools.
My son and I built a basic AR together and he wants to build one for himself. It is the perfect platform to start with you can chamber it in .22 with an adjustable stock and as they grow you can upgrade to a heavier caliber and extend the stock. Not to mention it has a more natural shooting stance and semi-autos have a lighter recoil for beginning shooters.
If you look at it without any preconceived biases you can see it is a very versatile tool.
