Hike Vs Bike

I did a 2.25 mile, with 1400’ of gain, hike in for an overnighter a couple weeks ago. There were a bunch of sections that were too steep to peddle. Then the bike just becomes a liability. Trying to peddle up 1400’ sounds absolutely miserable to me…but then again I’m 65 y/o so ymmv 😂

Hike, less variables, more flexibility, slower pace to keep an eye out for additional sign. The vertical shouldn't be an issue as you'll need to be prepared for it when hunting season arrives.

I pack a camp in on my bike, roughly 5 miles and 1000 vert on a a gated road. Unloaded it takes me an hour to climb the climb. With a load it can take up to 2 hours. Just to give you some idea.
That is super helpful! Thank you. I have the oppurtunity to practice that route this weekend if I wanted to. I will not even try it haha.

As a daily biker, my advice to you is to HIKE IT! :) Not only is the net altitude daunting, but look at all the squiggles on that route profile! Each squiggle is a climb and descent in itself. Since you haven't ridden recently, are hauling a pack and are riding a "generic" MTB, 10-bucks says your posterior will worn raw on Day1. 🥵

That said, I would love to do the bike route on a high end MTB packing nothing but a Camelbak and a tool kit.
