Elk caliber

Also, FWIW:
7mm-08 Remington has a case capacity to bore area ratio 9% lower than 6.5mm Creedmoor does -- more like that of .22 ARC. Translation: Barrels last incredibly long, and an excellent platform for shooting high pressure cases.
Pair it with a Tikka M+ magazine and you might have the new goldilocks 7mm setup.

I don’t think I’ve ever been in a pawnshop in Oklahoma that didn’t have a 270 on the rack.

There’s an old Outdoor Oklahoma episode on YouTube from back in the 80’s or 90’s when it came on Saturday morning TV of the Wichitas elk hunt. The guy they interview and follow around a little bit is toting a Ruger RSM tang safety, they were only chambered for one cartridge, 458WM.

My uncle worked for the department forever and worked 30 something seasons of the elk hunts in the refuge. He has some hair raising tales. The 5 rounds per day is 5 too many for many participants. 😁

Nothing monstrous but the farthest a bull went after getting shot was 90 feet.

Hard to beat a 300 Winchester Mag. It’s my favorite, and I have used more than a few different cartridges for elk. A rifle chambered for 30.06 would be another good choice for closer hunting type shots.

I live in N OKC, have a blued 7mm-08 18" threaded (Harvester EVO / US Reaper) in a Rokstok/Maven RS1.2 combo. I reload for it too. If you want to meet up (OKC GC?), shoot me a PM. Happy to lend it to you for the hunt or load you some ammo. Currently only have 150eld-x/120nbt on hand, and varget/h4350.

If your not planning on keeping the gun, then do you have a buddy that can lend you one that's legal? Otherwise I'd hit up a reputable pawn shop/ gun store and grab something used but in good condition and a few different boxes of ammo. Then sell it back when your done.

Then again this is Rokslide.... Good chance you buy something, fall in love, and spend more money on a cool chassis/suppressor and a pallet of ammunition.
