Help me waste...i mean spend my money..new caliber rifle time

I would pick the good old 30-06 of any of the 300 mags personally. But I am not shooting beyond 500 yards regularly either.

I'm mostly with you on this, to me the only reason to go to the magnum is for shooting past 600 yards. At 300 and less just about any caliber drilled into the arm pit will do.

Beautiful rifles Steve, which one is your favorite?

My current go to rifle is Miss Kimber in 30-06, with the Z5. I have her all dialed in with a custom turret that is spot on with my Reloader 17/ 180 grain Accubond load. Right at 7lbs ready to hunt, I polished out the action and magazine and adjusted the trigger.

I have recovered several Barnes bullets that failed to open as well. I also had some blow up at close range on a bear. Any bullet can fail, but after too many TSXs not doing what I wanted I have changed over to Accubonds. They are not as meat friendly, but they sure do kill.

HSM has a good PDF of ballistics you can download. It's has the speed, etc so you can determine how far out you consider the cartridge effective. As other mentioned, the modern 30-06 looks impressive. I found with the HSM trophy it's shot flatter than I calculated. Out of a stock R700 I was shooting 1moa at 700 yards.

Awesome info so far, thanks everyone!
I guess it should be noted, as I completely forgot, but I have a friend who reloads.
He is currently to set up for 7mm rem mag which he shoots, but he is willing to reload for me as long as I get him the dies for any new caliber.

I might hold tight until Hornady's ELD-X ammo is available. This stuff could make a reloading press gather dust if its worth a crap.
