Need help deciding on a new rifle/ caliber

I’ve been thinking of replacing my .308 with 6.5 prc any one do the same?
I’d pass. A rifle you will probably never come close to burning a barrel out of one you actually can if you shoot more than a box of ammo a year.

308 all day.

Some solid suggestions in here. The 25cm is hard to argue with based on your requirements and covers all of them. If you reload you can really fine tune it with the new bullet options coming out. Mine is a hammer.

If you are looking at .243 and .257 caliber…..

The 6mm CM and 6.5 CM are great choices
Bullet / Factory Ammunition selection is still short on the 257’s.

I have a new PH3 in 6 CM and it stays with me always.

The 6.5 PRC is a bit more over bore and a bit harder to find shells for than the 243, or 6 CM, but it’s definitely a great all around choice, and will take deer well past your comfortable range for a long time.

Don’t discount the old standards
270 Win
7-08
308

The 270 equals or outruns factor ammo in the 6.5 PRC inside of 500 yards if the gun shoots 140-150 grain bullets.

Also the 6.5 Creedmoor has proven to be a great round and will likely grow in popularity over the next 10-20 years.
Stay clear of Weatherby cartridges unless you have lots of money to spend on ammunition or want to hand load. They are all fast and expensive. Great rounds, but $110 a box vs $30 a box is a big deal.

Don’t get too ate up with “going out west”. I’ve lived here my whole life and can say, without any doubt, that bullets on vitals kill these animals just like anywhere else. The 243, 25 Souper, 257 Roberts, 6.5x55, 270, 7mm-08, 7x57, 308, 30-06, and 8x57…..all with comparably low BC bullets and fixed 4x and 6x scopes, have all worked great for me.

I went the weird route with 25s when I rebarreled a 308 to 25 Souper. It was cool and all. If the 6.5 CM was available back then, I probably would have done that instead.

Hey everyone! This is my first post on here and I'm looking for some advice. I have been using my grandfathers marlin 30/30 for hunting since I was a kid, but the rifle has seen some better days and I made the decision to get a new rifle and only use the marlin occasion/ for plinking. The calibers I was mainly looking at were .243, 25-06, .257 wby. I originally intended to get a larger caliber but truthfully fell in love with the "smaller" calibers. I mainly hunt white tails and black bear but intend to go out west in the future. I'm having a hard time deciding especially because it's difficult to find rifles chambered in 25-06 and .257 wby. Now with the 25 rpm coming out that is also a contender for obv reasons. Just looking for anyone's input thank you !
of the cartridges listed id probably go the 25 rpm for a one and done rifle. ammo cost will be higher than the others mentioned but so will performance. if you handload the 257 wby or 25x7prc will exceed it but not by a ton.

I would also agree that a Tikka T3X in 6.5 Creed would be a great single rifle based upon accuracy, utility and ammo options. Mine is a CTR Stainless and i consider it my most indispensable rifle although I do use my 223 more. A 223 would be a great 2nd rifle followed by a 243. I don't reload and don't like overpaying for ammo.
