This forum is not healthy for my bank account… the revival of this thread reminded me I still have a .22 can that needs a home, and I am dedicated caller this elk season… so might as well have a grouse gun on my hip… Should have it in a week to try out. 3” barrel so should shoot most everything subsonic and be a little more compact. I’ll see what accurate yardage I can get out of it for grouse. Was surprised it’s actually 4oz heavier than the Lite. I think because it’s actually just a chopped version of the steel target barrel.

We’ll see if I wish I just went with the regular 4.5” barrel Lite. Didn’t see the weight difference when I purchased.

you won't..... once you dump the rail and get it set up and dialed in. I've shot prairie dogs past 80 yards.

Are either of you having any issues running subs? I'm trying to get an idea of what kind of ammo the SSH version likes and dislikes.

No reason to run subs thru a pistol with a 3" barrel, as most all HV ammo IS sub thru them....

I’ve got a Ruger convertible in stainless and it’s smooooth as glass. Also a browning buck mark and a ruger mark series 22. All phenomenal and you can’t go wrong

I’m also looking at these two pistols. Odd to me the SS version is $200 more than the 4.4” version. Does this have a better trigger or something? I feel like I can get the 4.4” version and have the barrel cut back and still be money ahead? Just trying

The Mk IV Ruger is easier to clean than earlier versions. I have a “Target” version, I wish we were allowed to use handguns for hunting up here.

Here's my grouse gun. Keltec P17 w a GSL Pillbox Suppressor. Weighs 1lb w 16 in the mag and 1 in the hole. I carry it on my pack hip belt in a Muddy River Tactical kydex holster.

So a year old... but really interested how accurate your P17 is - and how critical the red dot was for you? Are you taking head shots or body shots confidently? I mean, I want a mark iv 22/45 lite - but a P17 is 1/2lb lighter loaded then the Ruger is empty; and lighter on my wallet enough to get iron sight P17 and a can for less than the Ruger... so very tempting... The P17 with red dot combo brings the price tag up but still come out lower... A great deal for plinking and grouse if reliable and accurate if the shooter does their part...

Need to make a shim for the red dot as I am out of adjustment. Killed a few spruce grouse despite the red dot issue. All body shots. The suppressor I put on it uses wipes and does effect the accuracy. I plan to replace the suppressor this year with a printed titanium can and then shim the red dot up. It is extremely loud without the suppressor.

Not what you hand in mind but think about a light 38 special revolver such as a j frame. I load 105 grains of #9 lead shot at 1050 fps and it has no issue taking out a squirrel at 12 yards.

I'm sort of torn, if im carrying it on the pack, I've got a Ruger mk4 22/45 lite with my rugged suppressor and a burris fast fire.
If I'm riding logging roads, or early season scouting during grouse season but before modern firearm opener then I have a 10/22 charger I built with a whistle pig barrel, in an enoch chassis with a folding brace and a vx2 ultralight. thing just flat hammers grouse, packs away super small, and is plain fun to shoot.

curious about the red dot shims, but one concern I had is that both the CT red and Viridian green dot options in the packaged set aren't of the highest reputation - I even saw one video that the option with irons never malfunctioned but the one with included optic did so seemed very sensitive to the added weight... Maybe just going iron sights is the most reliable path. but holster and even an entry dot optic is very tempting.

And I hadn't realized the suppressor you used had wipes, mine wont. Not sure which option, printed or traditional cheap option like Jessie's girl AL / sparrow or adjustable length JK 105 or lone wolf eliminator 22 because going shorter for convenient carry while hunting big game could be nice. Just use cci quite and maybe some vaseline to keep it quiet for grouse - but run full length and standard velocity the rest of the time...

I went through the same thought process a few weeks ago and ultimately went with the SS edition. With the SS edition you are getting cerakote, it’s a heavy barrel so good for a supressor, no sites to remove if you plan to run a red dot.

Also one small plus - if you order it thru SS, you have to send to their dealers and mine didn’t charge me any transfer fees because apparently SS cuts them a check for the sale. I had to go thru the gun dealers site to SS to ensure they got the “referral”.

I'm tempted to do a Form 1 and print one in CF on my sons new 3D printer.

I bought the red dot w mount from Keltec. I ran out of elevation adjustment trying to get it zeroed. I was planning on making a shim to go under the red dot to raise it up a bit. If that doesn't work its coming off and I'll stick to the factory sights.

What type of bullets are you using with yours?
I find some of them or hit or miss using subs when it comes to re-chambering.
