Gold Tip Ballistic Collar?

Can some please tell me if the ballistic collar is included as part of the arrow weight ? Meaning, is the weight accounted for in the grains per inch? the calculator on GT web site ask for any additional point weight. So when figuring out my inputs for the calculations do I add the ballistic collar weight there, some place else or how is this accounted for? Thanks
 
I put a dozen together today. Glued the 50 grain brass HIT in with AAE Max impact, after wire brushing and cleaning with lacquer thinner. Then got a decent coating of Max impact on the outside of the shaft and put the collar on, wiping off the excess. AAE told me the glue would set up in about 20, so that scares me. Fast setting generally is more brittle, but it is definitely rubbery stuff. We will see. I am going to mix up some two part 24hr epoxy and put a very fine line around the rim of the ballistic collar to feather that edge into the shaft. Hopefully the slight glue will help that taper into the shaft and take the pressure off the end of the collar where the bag is messing them up. I will let you guys know when i get a chance to put the through the ringer and see how they hold up.

It wouldn't be in the GPI listed because it is an accessory, so you would need to add it to the point weight when trying to determine the right deflection.
 
Anyone tried the Gold Tip Kaos arrows with the ballistic collar on a 3D course? Thinking about using them on a large 3D tournament but don't know how difficult it is to pull them on those dense 3D critters. Hopefully it wouldn't pull the inserts and all out.

I've only shot one 30 target course but I didn't have any problems.
 
I have played around a lot with the kinetic or .204 sized shafts and tried most outserts. I hate outserts for the record. I have a very high KE, so I am tough on arrows. The best that I have found are the Firenock Aeroinserts in stainless steel. They weigh 51 grains. Check them out on the Firenock website. They also make them in 7075 aluminum and titanium. Only negative is the price. They look good too, especially with the Exodus BH. I shoot BE Rampages in 250 spine. I have yet to break one. I also like the Kinetic shafts but use Firenock nocks in the unlighted version as I think their nocks are the best.

Dude. I just reset 11 brass HITs with AAE Max Impact and somehow didnt set one all the way in. And I cannot get it out. I have been able to get any insert out that I have tried prior to this AAE stuff. I cant believe how hard I have hit it, and it wont budge.

However, if you are going to glue the shock collars, I would probably use a 2 part 24hr epoxy. Something thicker would be better, the AAE is probably a little to thin and runny

Is the max impact a super glue? I have had trouble trying to get hit inserts set when the glue sets to fast.
 
It is, but it doesnt set that fast. Customer service said you have about 10 seconds working time, then it should be set up by about 20 seconds. I felt like I had plenty of time
 
Just got some kaos today. I got 300s which are a touch on the stiff side at my current draw weight but considered adding screw in weights to the back of insert to break down the spine to get it fine tuned perfectly to what my bow likes, is this a good idea? Also ontargets post had my concerned with the outserts and I started thinking about hits but after continued reading it seems to be personal preference. I hated the hits on my cabon injexions because of the end of the shaft splintering, But with ballistic collars...problem solved? So should I get some hits or just use the outserts and some kick ass glue? Doesn't anyone make an regular old insert with a flange to protect the end of the shaft for these sized arrows? Why isn't anyone using that? Was there a problem with that system than I never heard about?
 
Arrow is too small a diameter for the old style insert.

In my opinion the hit firther back in the shaft and the ballistic collar butted up against the end of the shaft glued is the toughest setup yet if built right. That said, I havent found the weak point yet, but usually there is one, anything can be broken. If I were you I would go with HITs. The GT outsers move the head away from the shaft further and create more leverage to break the shaft, but they might do well with the collars, I really cant speak to that.

Ok cool I may try some. Did you clean the inside of the shaft with alcohol or acetone or anything?
 
Yeah laquer thinner. And I wire brushed the insides some too before with an wire barrel cleaner tip that I modified onto my cordless drill.
 
I added ballistic collars to my Kinetic .200s so I didnt have the nock bushings. And as far as tuning goes it seems to me that with compounds you can get over spined arrows to tune pretty easy. There is a thread on here i started about being over spined. I think the spine balance is more important with traditional gear.

Im shooting a .200 big game kinetic with a 50 grain brass insert in the front and the ballistic collar with a total arrow weight of 524 grains I think. They bareshaft tune real well. I think Aaron was shooting .200s for awhile too and said they tuned well for him also
