I'm tired of dealing with these things. I'm gonna probably just take a loss on the two dozen I just got and order a few dozen axis 300s. I know they will hold a hit inserts. Plus I can use the kinetic collars on them

Got it figured out today. Goat tuff holds the hit inserts really good. Just have to be really fast putting them in.

Remember, generally speaking fast set glue will be more brittle than a slow set glue. I have had a heck of a time getting glues to stick to the inside of kinetic xt's and I've tried everything. The HIT epoxy, loctite 24hr, some pine ridge fast set stuff, you name it. And I have wire brushed and cleaned them well. Like I said earlier, I accidentally set one of the brass HITs too shallow with the AAE Max impact, and I CANNOT get it to move for the life of me. I have used the drill bit method and everything else I can think of so far and it will not move. Just my experiences here fwiw

I used HIT 24-hour epoxy on my Kinetic XT's with both HIT's and their outserts and I haven't had a single issue with them not holding. In fact, I've never had a single issue with any insert coming out of any arrow shaft using the 24 hour HIT epoxy. I love the stuff, because when I set an insert I expect it to stay put for the life of the arrow. But I also never use any chemicals on or in my arrows like acetone.

The AAE Max bond is what i finally got to work.> It stuck them awesome. You just have to be fast.. If you put the insert barely in the shaft and put the green set piece in the insert... Put the glue on and immediately push it in it works pretty good.. But there is a chance of ruining a arrow or two..
My next dozen i am going to leave an inch long and put the inserts in b4 i fletch them.. Then i can cut the nock end to make them the correct length.. That way if one stops short i haven't scrapped an arrow

The set depth cannoth be changed by cutting the opposite end of the arrow. If you set it too shallow you are high and dry I think. Unless you want to completely cut it off and start over. However im surprised you had to really work that fast I had plenty of time to apply the glue, spin them in with my fingers for an even coat, and then set them all the way with the green set tool.

Im saying you can cut the whole insert off and use a new one.. At least then your just losing an insert and not a whole arrow

Just bought a dozen GT kinetic kaos. Running the brass HIT insert. For those that are running the brass HIT inserts, are you also using the collar, or am I ok to just run the point up against the end of the shaft? If you're just using the point, what diameter point are you using?

You mean like these?

I had that happen this year with one of the GT outserts. I didn't check the arrows close enough and stuck an arrow in the quiver with these outserts instead of the HIT's. I shot low on a bull and the BH with outsert completely broke off inside the shaft.

My remaining 5 arrows with these outserts have been relegated to 3D shooting from now on, until they're broken or bent.

I decided that I'm going to run the brass HIT with the ballistic collar. What epoxy should I use to glue the collar on? AAE max impact, or will gorilla epoxy suffice?

You don't need to glue the collars on, the FP or BH will hold them on. I would not glue them on but if you really feel the need don't epoxy them. Use Bohnig cool melt so you can get them off. They are not durable at all. The top portion is very thin aluminum and it will chip off and roll. They will be wrecked in a couple of weeks if you shoot bag targets at all. You epoxy them on you won't be able to take them off and will have have a trashed collar on a perfectly good arrow.

If you are worried about the shaft/head interface just get some #5 BAR's from Easton, they will fit and are far better than the GT collars.

use the collar... without using the collar it greatly weaknes the arrow and insert. with the collar these arrows imo are tough and great.

Some using the collars, some not. Some using glue, others not....What's the consensus?

I have no idea what the consensus is......but I prefer to roll with HIT's without a collar. Much cleaner smooth transition, and I've never had any issues with ANY arrow I've run with the HIT's. I do run .300 spine arrows and the Kinetic XT 200's, so they are thicker and more durable than lighter spines. But I'm also shooting 32 1/2" draw and I never worry about the arrows.

I'll be running the kaos in .300 spine. Only issue I see without running the collars is that a standard field point is 5/16", and will be larger than the diameter of the arrow. The OD of the arrow is 0.275" and the standard point and head is 0.3125". Seems like that may cause some issues when pulling the arrows out of targets.

The collars strike me as something I would either use hot melt or nothing at all on - no good reason to make them permanent that I can see.

There is no reason to use them if you aren't running the GT half outs. They were designed to keep the outserts from bending as that had been a problem.

I just picked some Kenetics up this fall with the Ballistic Collar. I had some bad experiences with the Easton Axis w/ HIT Inserts. Weak setup in my opinion with the point pushing directly on the thin carbon. Splintered many ends on the not so great shots. I used to accidentally shoot my old gold tips through my metal sided shed and although it stripped off the fletchings the shafts were still golden. Tired of the Easton junk. Hope the durability of the Gold Tips is still the same.
