Garage storage pics/ ideas

I really like this vidmar tool chest for gun shop and bow shop with the cabinets and such. What ideas do you guys have for those buying those new seems $$$$
You must have forgot to attach an image.

I really enjoy the Vidmar Cabinets and Lista Benches and 2-doored cabinet that I have in my shop. I bought my Lista bench (Black/Grey) new in about 2005. All of my other cabinets have been purchased through Craigslist. but you have to react quickly if the price is good. Rent a small trailer at Home Depot and go pick it up. The blue cabinets in the photos below are Stanley Vidmar.

I am fortunate to have space for a pole barn. The added boiler for radiant heating is very nice. It will take me a while to fill these shelves... 30' long, 42" deep, and 16' high.

Proper sized shelves with totes. I find I like a mix of full size and half size totes. The half sizes just are less digging for smaller tuff. I like Rubbermaid brute totes but they are expensive and most seem to opt for the cheaper black and yellow ones. My shelving is not custom sized so not as efficient as a DIY shelving project. Life would have been better organized if
I had went with totes 40 years ago. I still have a Rubbermaid roughneck tote
I bought in the late 80s early 90s. They were indestructible. Not sure if the roughnecks are less durable these days. But my Brutes are very very durable. Pretty much what I would call a commercial grade.

For the first time in my life I’ve actually got extra room to have things spread out and organized. I love simplicity and no clutter. Each tote is activity specific and labeled.

I’m not 100% done yet. I still have to add tool hangers and get the wood pellet stove plumbed in. I’m planning to add some thick rubber mats to stand on in front of the bench.

I got tired of filling my shop with all my outdoor gear so I bought a one trip 40' highwall conex and lined both sides with tough rack shelving. Now I can fit all of my gear in there (for now) and leave my shop open for other work.

I’m envious! That’s a great setup.

Thank you, I feel very blessed to finally have space. Feels so nice to have everything exactly in its place and never have to rummage through totes in search of anything
I bet! That’s been my dream since, well, forever. I’m getting closer. I don’t have a shop but we do have a very large garage. We just need to get rid of some stuff we don’t use and modify our organization system.

I like this idea. Get a cheap mini split off Amazon and have it fairly conditioned would be ideal.

My problem is I have stuff in multiple places. Its kind of a pain in the ass.
Gun/clothes and small items are in my home office. I got a 36" wide by 9' tall cabinet from a house that i was working on that clothes and small stuff go in
Packs/ camping gear/ stands are all in my "basement" 5' tall encapsulated crawlspace.
Then over flow and all my big stuff is in my shop or leaned up against the outside. Several ladder stands / feeders. Canoe, big boat, 2 campers, dog boxes, force fetch table,
You'd think a 70x40 quonset hut would be big enough but the sloped sides eat up about 6-8' on each side and only one big door sucks. Probably going to take it down in a few years and go 80x40 shop with multiple garage doors and at least 1/2 of it will have an insulated loft to use for a man cave/hunting room.

That’s exactly what we did, unless it’s a seasonal item ( snowshoes, winter wear, etc) if we didn’t use something at least once a year then we got rid of it..obviously holiday stuff and family heirlooms were excluded.

We went through everything with a strict attitude and got rid of the vast majority of things just being stored.

I couldn’t believe how freeing not having excess stuff is — it’s like when you eliminate debt and that invisible weight is lifted off you.

That’s a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood on top with about 10 inches ripped off the bank if I recall correctly. You can see an early version without a backboard. I later took the strip and mounted it as a backboard. It’s a tall bench that is very stable and can support a lot of weight. I estimate the totes can carry around 25 pounds (weighing by oomph when lifting them). The bottom of a tote does sag slightly with that much weight, unless you have something hard and flat to put on the bottom before loading it. My heaviest totes each have a large cutting board, a double burner flat cast iron skillet, or a camping stove on the bottom which helps reduce sag. The tote rims support the weight just fine. I’ve had no breaking. I keep freeze dried meals in one tote, and down and wool gear in others. I’ve had no rodent issues. There are mice in the garage each winter.

Amen to this. I was afraid to get rid of stuff because I thought it would limit what I could do. I went through a purge of the garage and closets this summer and wow, I had no idea how freeing it would feel.

I did a big down size in my living situation. Had to do a massive purge on all things I owned. Hard to get that ball rolling, but once you do....

Still a bit heavy on the gear side of things, but you are right. It is very freeing

Wifes car and my General are in the garage. This is my basement though.
