I’m looking at building a new hunting rig and am ready to drop an order to XLR for a magnesium Element chassis, so I’m looking for some feedback on their stock options… Originally I was looking at just defaulting to the carbon fiber stock even tho aesthetically I’m not really a fan. Then I started looking at the weight difference and noticed it’s only about half a pound between the different stocks. Now I know ounces make pounds and I mostly agree, but when everything else will be equal and you add in the lack of adjustment on the carbon fiber stock, I’m wondering if the slight weight savings is worth it.

So yea, just looking for some feedback and if I’m missing anything…

is this for a magnum or something smaller? if its for something like 6.5cm or smaller I'd go with the carbon but if its a magnum or for a youth the tr2 is worth consideration. the tr2 is nice bc it has the squishier buttpad which you can get above bore which improves muzzle rise and felt recoil. its also very adjustable (although doesn't adjust quickly) so its a great option for youth shooters. downside is a bag rider is another 4 or 5 oz so you are looking at around 29 oz just for the buttstock where the carbon one is about 12 w/ bag rider. so it's more a pound difference vs half pound. add in 5 oz for the folder and the oz really start adding up. However if its for a magnum a little heavier rile sometimes makes it more manageable.

I'd probably just yolo and build lightweight. if you want light weight and don't like the aesthetics of the XLR smoke on another option is the s2delta. https://s2delta.com/magnesium-skeleton-buttstock/
I haven't shot it but I gave it a good hard look before deciding on another buttstock for another chassis build I put together. just make sure it's short enough to work with the XLR folder if you want to shoot it with a folder ( I think if its 12.5 then with the folder should give around 13.75 normal lop).

I have had both. The adjustment is nice on the C6 but with most hunting rigs I think it is too heavy. It makes the gun butt heavy unless you have a heavy profile barrel. If you are worried about adjustability, just order a spacer when you get the buttstock so you can make it longer if needed.

I own both. The only thing I prefer in the TR2 is the adjustability for my kid to use but other than that it’s heavier, doesn’t fold (not sure if you can add the folder with it) and the bag rider sucks. I’d go the smoke cf if it’s gonna be your primary hunting rig.
