What’s the best freeze dried food out? I don’t mean necessarily taste but the best one for you? Seen some mixed reviews on some major brands.

Mountain House has been my go to for years. I'm looking for something different though as I am getting tired of the same menus. I'll follow this and see what other options are out there. Here it's either MH or peak that stores carry.

I’ve tried lots of them and I honestly haven’t had one that doesn’t taste good in a tent after a long day. Mtn house, peak, heathers, backpackers pantry, alpine air, hawk viddles and a handful of others. I just buy whatever brand seams to be on sale at the moment.

My wife and I have been making our own for a few years. Spaghetti, chicken teriyaki, chicken noodle soup, alfredo...you name it. You make the food how you like it, divide into preferred portion size, freeze it, weigh it, put it in freeze dryer. When it's done, weigh portions again to determine how much boiling water to add. Drop it in a mylar bag and you're done. No extra preservatives, no huge doses of sodium. When you re-constitute it, it tastes like you just got dinner off the stove at home.
A friend of mine goes to local restaurants and gets his favorite meals in a to-go box. He freezes them and has me freeze dry it. Then he has Panda Express or whatever on the mountain.

I like peak but mainly because that's what the bow shop I work at carries and I get a good price on them. I tried the jalapeno sausage gravy and biscuits from Pinnacle based off of @Ryan Avery recommendation and it was fantastic

I like different meals from different brands… so I typically have a mix of each one’s best (according to my taste). I haven’t looked into which ones are actually healthier… I just assume they’re all processed junk but it’s only a handful of meals a year.
