Have you experimented with how long lettuce keeps in backpack vs cooler ? Id venture to guess 2 maybe 3 days, with greater issue being destroyed from crushing is in backpack vs heat.

Id imagine romaine heart would last longer than in a bag too, but don’t know from experience.

When we packed in, i made a stash in the creek to keep cool,. IF you arent camped near water, you dont have that option. We usually packed in with horses so didnt have the same weight and space concerns but i have done it backpacking also Yes there is a shelf life but it was awesome to have fresh greens. ..,
