# of times a hunter lied and said they had permission to be there > # of times a LO gave permission then lied about it. I'd say those are probably 1000:1 odds.

As most things in life the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Not knowing much of the details but seeing this person had an employee that was a relative or friend to the LO, my guess is they rolled the dice. He didn't think it'd go this far since he had a "connection".

I say Kudos to the LO for making sure it was delt with in the courts. I know many folks would have chewed him out and left it at that.

I've watched the the videos. IMO they seem quite edited, and a little too coincidental (especially the second video). This guy has a reputation of being a bad actor in the hunting space, and typically where there is smoke, there is always fire. I'm not sure if this Erik owns the company solely, but if there are partners, the partners should try to buy him out, move on & do their best to salvage the brand.

I read somewhere he had permission to hunt a portion of the property but shot the deer well off the area he had permission to hunt. Kinda like allowing someone in to use your restroom and they proceed to go into every room in the house.

I beleive the court date is tomorrow morning the 17th. Im wondering how long it will take for the verdict and details to become public.

First off, the guy is clearly an absolute tool. I don’t think anyone is really arguing that.. I watched the Instagram video and I watched the actual YouTube video of the hunt. (At least I’m pretty sure it’s the right one.. kind of crazy that they would, or even be allowed to, post that hunt on their YouTube with all the legal stuff going on.) But if you watch the video, he takes a TERRIBLE shot on that deer. All he sees is the head and neck while the rest of the deer is in brush and has him pinned. He sends one anyways, misses the shot a foot to the right but the deer jumps the string and steps into the arrow. Dead deer.
While I won't sit here behind my screen and ever defend the terrible shots and subsequent bragging that these guys do, that isn't the video of the poached deer. He is being charged with trespassing and poaching during rifle season.

I believe tomorrow is the arraignment where they read him his final charges. But if you look at the court records as of this morning, they've added a motion for gag order. Obviously Idaho isn't happy with him posting these instagram videos. Or maybe it's his own attorney trying to shut him up.

I'm calling bs on the 2nd video he put out. Somehow his daughter conveniently recorded the conversation with the landowner and it happened to be the 10 seconds he was confirming the permission. Then his daughter dropped the phone and it somehow cut off the video without anyone pressing stop. When he asked the landowner if he still had permission or if he needed to pay a trespass fee the "Yeah" sounded like it was coming through a phone and not face to face. Seems really fake

Or it's him trying to hide the facts of what's going on? 🤷‍♂️

You are 100% wrong.
Railroad property is private and it is trespassing.
Only exceptions are a crossing at grade, and buying a ticket to ride a commuter train.

And at any time the RR has the ability to revoke.

Get caught on RR property with a firearm. I dare ya.
Darn, I was planning to access some areas via railroad tracks that are no longer in use. I would be surprised if anyone was enforcing it, but good to know.

It sounds extremely fabricated. He asks some scripted questions, plays a recording of a guy saying “yeah” video stops. Then it conveniently starts back up again when he asks about written permission or if he needs to pay a fee and then the “yeah” recording again… which doesn’t even answer his line of questions. Proves nothing. And he hash tagged it with #1badfishcop I’m sure that’ll help him out. Keep digging Erik

And he just happened to take a picture of the thank you note he wrote.

Does taking a blurry photo through a car window of you giving a cheap gift to a landowner count as permission? Asking for a friend.
LOL....yeah that'd totally be sufficient!!!

Again, I’m 1000% not defending MF, my only intent is to pass along the things I’ve learned to fellow hunters in 30+ years of hunting in WI….and the last 10 chasing elk out west. One of the things I’ve learned the hard way is to always have permission to hunt private property in writing. For me it’s the best way to CYA. The other main thing is to keep clear lines of communication. In the past, when I had written permission, I would still reach out via phone call or text to let the landowner know when I’d be there hunting and where. Communication is key for both parties involved. I’d also be there whenever the land owner needed any help with anything on the property.

While I totally agree with a previous poster, 99% of the time it’s the person who has permission that abuses the agreement, not the landowner; I’ve personally seen it go both ways several times… particularly when it involves a deer with a lot of bone on its head.

To be clear, I’ve never obtained permission to hunt private out west as I’ve never seen a need for it. I prefer to spend my time bow-hiking the vast sums of public land with the rest of the OTC DIYers. I also grew tired of trying to hunt the small tracts of public land here in WI, leasing and trying to get permission… so I worked my arse off and saved for years to buy my own small chunk of heaven. Now I just get yelled at by the wife for spending too much time there.

It will be interesting to see how this shakes out. I would like to think the officer would have consulted land owner prior to issuing a citation/charge and if there was a mistake the charges would have been dropped. Let justice prevail. It is however very distasteful to belittle the game officer by #fishcop. He needs to realize the impact he may have on younger generations of hunters. Disrespecting the ones who are tasked with protecting our wildlife sets a bad precedence.

I’m guessing the gag order may have something to do with the fact that legally a felon can not profit from the story of their crimes. I know he isn’t convicted yet but I’m guessing that him trying to profit from it now before he is convicted probably isn’t really cool with the court
