Well I procrastinated far too long debating DCF vs Sil-poly and now Dylan doesn't think that he can get a tarp to me in time for September, so I'm searching for reasonably priced-non custom alternatives (SG, Argali, MLD, SO DST, Ect.) for a flat tarp. I was planning on going with a 7x9 BG tarp and having a center pole reinforcement added, all in all estimated weight per BG was around 10oz (which with my BG bivy brings my shelter sub 1lb).
I'd like to find some sort of alternative that I can snag before Sept archery season, but I don't want to break the bank either, knowing I will eventually get exactly what I want.
Wants/needs are some kind of flat tarp ish design that can be used as a tarp over my bivy for wet Sept nights, but I also want something large enough to sit 2-3MAX guys under (thinking 7x7,8x10,9x9) in inclimate weather in the later seasons/sping bear time frame while glassing as needed. My hunting partner has a SO DST already so this isn't something I need to be huge, I'm thinking more err on the side of light weight (10oz ish) so that we can justify one or the other based on the forecast and our shelter choices (tipi vs tent vs bivy). This is something I will likely keep in my pack most of the year to also double as a meat tarp at times.
Curious what hidden gems are out there that I might not have seen/heard of; at the moment all I have is a very small tarp w/ 4 guyout loops on the corners and thats it. Pretty sure I'll want a little more than it offers in terms of size.
TIA
