Final Rise - New era of upland vests

Been using the Wing Works since about 07, can't make a complaint, but I just got a FR and plan to let my Grandson use which ever one I don't. Stay tuned, seems lighter. After looking it over looks nice.

I have a WW. One of my huntin' buddies has a Final Rise. He had issues trying to purchase a WW and began looking elsewhere. He loves the vest due to the lighter weight and the options of molle attachments. It is holding up just fine after 2 seasons.

I saw the writing on the wall with Wings Works and ordered a spare vest years ago--will probably be good for the next 20 years. I have inspected final rise extensively--I think wings works are built tougher but for folks with no vest and needing one I'm sure they fit the bill for the avg upland hunter

I am in agreement with all the above. I've had the WingWorks vest for 12 years and a buddy has the Final Rise. There are essentially the same with excellent waist belts and shoulder harness systems that allow you to carry the weight on your hips. The modularity is also similar, as I choose two deep shell pockets as when I am on a hunt here in Washington I can easily encounter 5-6 different species that are all in season, so I might have to shoot a lot!

I can get two boxes of 12ga shells, 4-5L of water, rain/snow jacket, first-aid kit, various accessories, GPS transmitter, wallet, cell phone and a fully-loaded Glock 43 in my WingWorks vest and it carries beautifully. I also believe it is built "tougher" than the Final Rise, as mine doesn't even have a scratch on it after 12 seasons of being pushed through Russian Olives, high Sagebrush, thorns, blackberries and just about any other bramble you can think of. However, that comes at a heavy price in weight and the Final Rise is certainly lighter.

And from now on, "lighter" is going to be key for me. I recently underwent extensive cervical spine surgery and my doc says that I just won't be able to carry all that weight on my (also surgically reconstructed) shoulders and neck and that I will need to shorten my hunts, reduce the weight in my vest and get a lighter-recoiling shotgun than my pet 6 1/2 lb 12ga SxS.

This means it will be Final Rise for me in the next year or so. It won't be easy to do as my WingWorks vest has served admirably and still has an entire lifetime of service left in it, but cutting 4-5lbs off my kit is just something I need to do and the Final Rise vest will be lighter and should carry every bit as well as my old vest.

I am debating between all the choices in the Final Rise catalog as to which will let me carry enough for me and the dogs but not too much for my neck and shoulders. And I has hunt in Montana, I still need to have the capability to carry a sidearm at-the-ready at least some of the time. I am thinking the Summit or the Legacy but perhaps the Summit XT will end up being the one.
