Family dog gets in between charging bear and young boy

A family dog pulled off an act of bravery over the weekend, leaping in between a charging bear and a young child.

Video from Jeffrey Tazzara's home security system, licensed by Storyful, shows his young son standing in the driveway outside Tazzara's home as a black bear appears, running toward the child at a high speed.

As the boy backs away, the family's husky mix, Bella, is seen running over from across the yard and chasing the bear away, circling behind the animal and placing itself in between the bear and the boy.

Good Dog!!

Yeah, whether or not the bear was actually after the child is subject for debate, but the actions of the dog aren’t, IMO. Sometimes, as a species, I have serious doubts as to whether or not we truly deserve them what they give us. I believe God gave man the dog and said, “ Look. This is what true, unadulterated love and devotion looks like. “

My neighbor's dog apparently jumped a 6ft fence to run off a bear last week.

It's a poodle looking dog named Toby that sometimes has hair ties in to keep hair out if his eyes, weighs maybe 30 lbs but should be 25, and is as friendly as can be when he's out on a walk.

Dogs are great.

My old Wolf Hybrid weighed in at 145 lbs of solid rock.
Collected him at just over 5 weeks old.
I guess his absolute hatred of bears was simply inherent / genetic as I never trained him in that regard.
He was extremely fast / agile / powerful.
Any bear that did not immediately get up a tree had a real problem with him.
He carved up more than a few in his span.
Miss that Lad.

The new one (closing in on 80 lbs at 8 months) is currently in human tracking / protection training.
He will be undergoing bush training soon.
I suspect he will be much alike to my previous one regarding bears...

Cheers

Good job dog even if it was a small bear. No, dogs aren't the best protection and can even attract bears. That's why most national parks out West explicitly tell you to not take them off trail.

I grew up hunting in CT and back in the day (70's) there were zero to no bears, with only a few transient bears in the NW part of the State. Now they are everywhere and really need to be managed. Unfortunately, there are too many bleeding heart types that keep that from happening, but if they ever do it will be a place to bag one.

A dog is the best bear protection going. I'll take a badass healer over any firearm or spray.
I have a Great Dane, great Pyrenees, pit bull, Chihuahua mix. Looks like a 1/3 scale Great Dane with fafo eyes and the agility of a malinois. Complete faith in her protecting me against wild animals or intruders….house cats not so much.
