Not sure if the info on Sportsman’s is from the before times when Barrett last made Fieldcrafts. They show Fieldcrafts (out of stock) between $1730 and $1900.

My apologies. I mis-read that earlier. New Owners as in New Owners of Barrett.
Not new Fieldcraft purchasers.

I emailed Barrett to see if they'll make a lefty. The response from one of their reps:

"I have not been told anything about a left handed model, but that doesn't mean there isn’t a potential in the future."

That'll probably be a no. At least it'll save me some money.

A lot of companies get sold and quality suffers because new owners start cutting corners to maximize profits. Just look at literally every company that freedom group bought if you want a perfect example. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens very frequently.

Hopefully they don't ruin Barrett.
The article said part of the reason was the new owner doesn't already have other North America sites. What usually happens is new acquisitions are combined into existing plants that have cheaper costs, but usually lower quality control. With the new company Barrett will stay and expand with its workforce and quality control, and be the site for future expansion.

It sounds like Barrett was ready to retire and not wanting to put the investment into expansion. New owners will allow that to happen. I would like a .243 and maybe a 25-06!

There were people that thought freedom group could advance Remington too because of their deep pockets. Guess what happened? Not that.

You don’t know what’s going to happen to Barrett until the new owners have been running it for a few years. Freedom group didn’t destroy Remington over night.

Well lets hope its positive!
Just passed on one at a premium as I didn’t really need it but curious to see what they turn out like. The most positive things in that article was he liked the fieldcraft so maybe extra attention will be given there.

I have one. I sure wouldn’t be opposed to another. Let’s hope it comes to fruition.

Ironically I just sold mine today. Had I known they were coming back I might’ve held on to it. Part of my concern was lack of aftermarket support.

I would definitely say theres a good chance in them being made again, the owner just eluded twice in that article that he liked them and its his favorite gun.Backpack hunting is very popular right now.
Everything is in place, just start the manufacturing again once he gets settled in.

@atmat you bought the fieldcraft hoping to modify it?
Nope. But I hunt hard and shoot a lot and didn’t love the lack of aftermarket replacement parts.

Examples: Talley stopped making rings for the FC, and they do break occasionally. I’ve cracked a rifle stock before on a hard fall.

These are all present greater challenges on the FC than some other platforms.

As a current Fieldcraft owner, I’m hoping that bringing production back online will lead to a few more scope mounting options. Either a lower rail or a more robust direct mount would be excellent.

Thanks for this thread OP. Has anyone heard anything new on when they may start to crank up production? I was sad to miss out on the original FC's in .308 with the 18" threaded barrel and I'm hoping they are a reasonable price, not the $3k some folks are wanting to fetch at the moment (no offense to them).
