Eurooptic Experience

I’m going to say something that maybe might be something to think about;

If I sell something I take lots of pictures of the continents and the condition of the product. That way the buyer is informed and “I’m protected from the consequences if it’s damaged during shipping, or the buyer says otherwise!?!”

I’ve bought a lot of scopes over the last 45 years. More than a few were “Already opened and inspected by the seller”. I know that my sound weird, but it’s important to know that what you’re sending is what the customer ordered, and that it’s in perfect condition!

ScopeSmiths, SWAF, Midway, and EuroOptics.

This year alone I had two S&B Klassik scopes shipped to me from two different vendors that were both “Opened” the factory seal was cut and the contents more than likely were inspected, maybe played with, and who knows what else!?!

The first one was exchanged for a different reticle and both arrived with the seals broken from EuroOptics. Either way it was clearly obvious that they were brand new! Same for the second one from a different vendor. That one the hold downs in the box that keeps the scope from moving around inside the box was broken. Which was more than likely due to the speed at which these shipments travel around at their facilities during the shipping process!

The scope clearly had room to move around in side the box, but I thought…. If it can’t handle that how would it work under recoil!!

I suppose if a vendor wants to open up a product and inspect it before shipping it is that reasonable and prudent!?!

As a seller I’d think so, but yet again it might make sense to put a note in the package to indicate that when done.

That way you can understand why and not let your mind wander.

Here’s a photo of the Schmidt & Bender box with the broken scope holders torn from the box floor. If you look closely at the top of the box you can clearly see where the turret(s) put a real dent in the box, and some scratch marks on the right.

Needless to say I didn’t see anything wrong with the scope or to complain about it to either the vendor or S&B…… And yes I’m still happy with the purchase and the product.

Sorry man, but I have to disagree with you here, vehemently.

The condition of that box is categorically unacceptable to receive from any retailer, for a major piece of optical equipment. That my hunt depends on, that many hunting and scouting miles, and gallons of gas, and rounds of zeroing ammunition depend on.

If I'm paying thousands of dollars for any piece of equipment, the only acceptable way to receive it, is factory-fresh, sealed up, with the box undamaged and unblemished from crush.

Unless otherwise agreed to, and specified, in writing, explicitly. It protects both the seller and buyer that way.

I disagree with that . The manufacturer is responsible for what's in their sealed box . Not the seller . Just as the seller is not responsible for the warranty . I buy new because I want the direct link to the warranty and the peace of mind of knowing it's new , and not been through a scope drop test already and returned .

I completely understand what you’re saying and what you expect. I’ve been guilty of the same thing in the past , and eventually picked which is worth it or not, and what is likely the outcome?

The S&B’s this year were discounted 30%, and hard to come by. That doesn’t mean that I wanted something used, they were both sold as “new”, nor did I like seeing the condition of the scope box. That said, it wasn’t an huge issue to me.

Midway has shipped me stuff with everything blown out of the box and nothing inside! Or SK 22 LR ammunition all over the interior and more than a few missing because the box failed during shipping due to the loose boxes of 500 ct. bullets flying around inside the box. Plus bricks of primers that never came! Etc.

All of those were replaced by Midway and yet I’ve had stuff, heavy boxes of bullets make it…. but barely in the cheap box it was shipped in by them.

Sierra Bullets BTW does the finest boxing shipping you’ll ever encounter! They foam in their products in heavy duty boxes so they don’t move around during shipping!

That said, I probably put more abuse in a two day National NRL, PRS, or any other Field match in a single weekend than what you’re worried about coming from a boxed product!

Yes, I’ve had scopes go down while at a match, more than a few. That’s never been good for my score card to have happen, and it’s the same thing you’re bringing up. I’ve put 40K miles in the last three years traveling to compete, and when your scope goes AWOL it sucks!

Some never have, some while still new but shot multiple times, but failed during an event. A S&B PMII went ten years without a single hiccup, and yet a new NF ATACR during its first season failed miserably at the MDT Steel Challenge in 2018, and again at a later point in its life on a Vudoo 22 LR.

I get it, the S&B box failed to hold the scope in place…. Sure it could have been drop kicked, yes it was double boxed. But was I interested in waiting months to get another one or get one as cheap as what I had in my hand!?!

That was a decision that I made and IMO, wasn’t worth asking for an exchange.

But that’s just me, and you’re welcome to do whatever you see fit with your decision making process. It’s your money and why not get what you expected in the first place.

Been nothing but smooth sailing for me at EO, granted my sample size is 2 tikkas and 3 scopes. Have a PH3 on order currently and am expecting a smooth/effortless transaction. And my experience they are very, very easy to get on the phone…no matter what time or day of week it is.
