yup. Rifles and cartridges are easily the least important factor in any hunt. so many other things are more important. Boot fit, backpack fit, good ranger, good sleep setups. any cartridge (within reason) will kill and anybody who shoots even a bit can pick up any rifle/scope that's sighted in and shoot an animal. The list of reason TO get a .30-06 is as long as the list of reason NOT to get a .30-06.
All depends on priorities. I personally think 308 is a better option in virtually every scenario, it does almost everything as well as an -06 but noticeably less recoil. But, TBF, in the real world, a 243(insert your preferred cartridge here) will git critters as well as anything else too sooooooo
Also, theres not one thing boring about meat in the freezer.

Boring and nothing sexy about it lol. Guys that shoot 30-06 have sex with the lights off, under the covers with socks on in missionary position only lol.Counter point. DO get a 30-06.
The Lord’s caliber.
Guys who don’t shoot 30-06 spend quite a bit of time imagining what other men do in the bedroom….Boring and nothing sexy about it lol. Guys that shoot 30-06 have sex with the lights off, under the covers with socks on in missionary position only lol.
I have been eyeing the 7-08 for years. I may have to get one. Also looking at 6 GTCartridge debates just give us something to do in the off season. That being said, I’ve stepped down from th 06 to a 7-08 and more practice, and my shooting has improved dramatically.
I'm switching to 30-06 for non-restricted states so i can reload my brass to 35 Whelen for restricted states. That's the plan anyways.I own bolt guns in 30-06, 243, 300wm, and 223. They all shoot great.
It's a major #firstworldproblems issue. Every time I think about buying a new rifle / caliber I talk myself out of it because from a practical standpoint pretty much all of my big game rifle hunting needs are more than adequately met by that lineup.
In fact, i could probably get rid of everything but the '06 and still be in the same boat. Not to mention 80% of the time I'm bow hunting anyway.
Owning a 30-06 is super boring - it's a total joy thief. It already does exactly what you're hoping that shiny new rifle will do from a hunting standpoint. And just like that, you can't logically justify that new rifle purchase.
I'm only 40 years old. Am I already turning into a fudd? Please help!
Most famous cartridge in history with the least fan base……..never understood it.
