I was watching the episode where Rinella goes elk hunting with Jason Phelps from Phelps game calls.

Noticed that Jason had an empty holster on his hip the entire time.

Anyone know what’s up with that? I know that Rinella isn’t the biggest gun guy from prior comments.

Was it an archery or muzzleloader hunt? I don’t know about other states but here in ca. you can’t have any firearm while archery hunting or a centerfire while muzzleloader hunting. I don’t know why you’d carry around a holster though.

You can carry a sidearm while archery bear hunting in California. That law only applies to deer hunting.

NM archery elk hunt.
If that was the case, why bring the holster?

If you Google “Steve Rinella” and click “images” you will see Mr. Meat with a plethora of “guns” being held in his very own hands. He has companies that he partners with to sell “guns” with his name on them.

The better question would be who cares what that cancer to hunting says?

Email meateater and ask them.

I didn’t know that, never gone after bear. I also didn’t know there was a archery only bear tag in ca. good info to know though.
Its a pretty new regulation, think they changed it 2 or 3 seasons ago.

There isn't an archery only bear tag, just a general tag that you can use during archery seasons or rifle.

He said no guns allowed on the show and no reason for him to remove his holster from his belt.

Probably a NM rule

But the big thing from that episode…Steve was using an EXO pack.

There you have it gentlemen, take it from here…

You can carry a gun while archery hunting deer too if it’s during a rifle season. Is there an archery only part of the general bear season? I meant during an archery only tag. I think some states let you carry a gun during archery only elk and deer seasons but I don’t know.

Why no guns allowed if its legal? They let Phelps use his kifaru pack/leupold binos, so not like they are forcing him to use only sponsored items...

And the Exo thing would be interesting since they missed out on the SG bid. Trying to be a one stop shop for all hunting gear with their margin on top.

Maybe Jason didn’t feel the need. I don’t think Steve had a thing to do with it.

I can have the meat-eater guys autograph my EXO pack right next to where I had the BRO crew sign it
