Does Rinella not allow a gun to be carried on his hunts?

I’ve always been a fan of Meateater, the show. Still enjoy it. There def are a lot of haters of Stevie on here.
As for the apparently empty holster..... I was just told by my fearless leader, Brandon, the obvious explanation. I can’t believe we hadn’t figured it out on our own, to be honest.
It is the dreaded and very very deadly “ghost gun” that was holstered up!

Decent NY Times profile on Rinella a couple days ago.

curiously, the author accompanied him on a deer hunt and mentioned his was the only gun to be seen.

Makes me wonder if they don’t limit The number of guns among the crew for control and liability reasons. They are shooting a TV show, right? Maybe their production liability insurance has stipulations about who can carry a gun. Maybe it requires special control and handling. Maybe Phelps was too lazy to take it off his pack.

Well, she also talked about Newcomb shooting a Deer with, wait for it...a gun...on that same hunt, so we know there were at least 2 guns.

I'm also pretty sure only Newcomb and Rinella were hunting, so how many more guns did they need? Do the camera guys need to carry guns if they aren't hunting?

@Jordan Budd was the Guide on the hunt, maybe she can add more detail.

Just watched the episode.

At around the 5 minute mark, Steve's voiceover actually gives you the reason.

"We are in New Mexico on an archery hunt, during archery season. No guns allowed."

Not saying that NM doesn't allow a handgun to be carried for self-defense reasons, but when you are filming a show that has National (and International) reach, why tempt the morons.

Oh my lanta. Steve was hunting so he had a gun. I never carry a gun while I’m guiding. I’ve never seen a camera guy carry a gun outside of possibly a side arm in bear country. The entire hunt was very normal, there was no one telling me or anyone what we could or couldn’t carry.

I don't think there is anybody that has done more to remove some of the stereotypes of blood thirsty, beer drinking, can shooting rednecks more than Rinella. His introspective style of narration combined with a reverence for wild things and wild places does wonders to bridge the divide between those who are pro and anti hunting. He has the ability to make a sensible argument about why we do what we do and has the medium to broadcast it. Just my 2 bits.
Exactly. If you ever want to see the appropriate way to own an anti hunter, just look up his response to a vegan on YouTube
