Dixie I wish you were my neighbor.
Yea me too …nice to have someone to bounce ideas off. I don’t live at the end of the road by I can see it from here and right between two Wilderness areas, if I’m not outside shooting, hiking or skiing I’m in my shop building something.

Aebl is a great stainless and 61 is about ideal for it in my use experience. Carbon-like on stones, not gummy or difficult to deburr. Nice work. Magnacut would be cool but I love the ease of sharpening/ touch-ups inherent to well heat treated 52100 or AEBL. I don’t bring my diamond stones to camp but I will bring a small Belgian coticule or translucent Arkansas.
Yes 52100 , ABE-L are great to put an edge on…love it when you get the hair burr when you finish it on the strop. Those two and Magnacut are my go to steels.
I follow the heat treatment from Larrin T (knifesteelnerd) and have been pleased with the results.IMG_0446.jpeg

Hey all! I’ve been reading all the posts on this thread and decided I had to join the forum because there is so much good discussion here. I think @ElPollo mentioned that I’m working on a #3 variation. I have been taking notes reading through this thread and I’m excited to come up with a pattern in the 3-3.5” range.

Jared—Really enjoying the little Canadian belt knife you made for me. I really like the slicey, high flat grind. It’s become an everyday carry sort of knife for me and has replaced my folding knife. Thanks!

Looks like that little blade is already tearing up some paper! I hope you the MagnaCut lives up to your expectations.

I did notice the picture might have made them thicker…this is how I hold them and some hand size reference. I didn’t hand sand these either since they are test ones that I usually do.Another topic…love your bags might just order the wax set.
This form has cost me some money…but definitely worth it! Also attached a picture of a Christmas present I just finished.

Are you making these solely for personal use, or (say) for other RS members?

So far, so good on the MagnaCut. I can tell you it’s a heck of a lot easier to hand sharpen than the M390 I was using prior to this and seems to be tougher. Definitely the best stainless steel out there. As you can probably see, I tend to hand sharpen with a few trimmed sheets of wet-dry sandpaper (400, 800, 1000, and 2000 grit) laid on the back of my strop block. And then I strop the edge to a mirror finish. The M390 definitely needs a diamond stone, but the MagnaCut does fine with my cheapo, lightweight, sharpening kit if it gets dull in the field.

If I had any regrets, it would be not picking up the classy leather pocket sheath with it. But I tend to catch pocket clips on stuff and lose knives. The OD green Kydex taco-style sheath you made for me with the UltiClip is not as pretty, but is way more practical for me for everyday use. If I clip it on a pocket, a belt loop or a pack strap, it’s not coming off. It also doesn’t soak up moisture, blood, or fat. It makes it a real user. Real happy with the whole set up thus far.

I’m sending a CBK to my leather guy in January and he is going to work up a sheath design for it. The pocket clip that he will put on it has stellar retention. It won’t be falling out of a pocket!

I much prefer leather to kydex, but it does take more care than kydex. I have been thinking about keeping an empty kydex sheath in my pack, that way I can use it with a bloody knife and preserve my leather.

I tend to make more in the winter during my slow time and I also get my dewar filled so I make a bunch of stainless …if you want something made PM me. I’ve got a few more versions heat treated and got a Gorhmann that should be here tomorrow so I can make an original style (copy) with a full flat grind out of Magnacut with orange g10.

Check this for inspiration. Hands down the best edc leather pocket sheath design ive seen. My buddy has one, it’s perfect. Unfortunately they only make them for a couple models of knife, and are hardly ever available. Would be absolutely perfect for your 3” model…

Those are some sweet looking sheaths, though I’m partial to deep carry sheaths with thin/discrete clips.

You could put whatever clip you/customer prefers on that style of sheath. It’s the molded high portion with that long cutout that makes this one so good. Secures the knife but still allows you to get full hand placement onto the handle for removal from the sheath. No readjustment once it’s drawn, it’s already sitting in your hand read to go to work.

That is a really nice feature. I usually end up putting a short paracord lanyard on my knife to assist in drawing the blade
