CPW has set a time on July 7th at 12:30-2:30 MST for a special meeting to address the Copper Creek wolf pack. Specific details about the pack have been requested to aid the decision making process including pack size, health and behavioral changes since the yearling’s removal. They also sought more information on which pack members were involved in depredations, what level of involvement the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service would have in the pack’s removal (as gray wolves are federally protected in Colorado) and more.

Some commissioners have alreadry motioned to remove the pack.... This should be very interesting with these commisioners being governor appointed members! I'll have my popcorn and be watching.

Basically worthless meeting where the commission admits it does not have the power to make real decisions when it comes to wolves.

Situation is a mess. I live 15 minutes from one of the ranches that had the kills in May. It's shocking how close the wolves are to civilization.... They killed calves essentially 'down the street' from Carbondale.

i can't understand why they didn't release them in the middle of the weminuche or in the la garitas. Total fubar

Utes didn’t want them in the Weminuche (not sure if relates to Brunot treaty), not that they aren’t already there or visiting.

Seems like RMNP would be the logical place for them, keep them away from livestock and protect them in the park.

Dodged Nepa studies by releasing them on private or state owned land… stupid I know but if they wanted to put them there it would have been a multi year study, plus it’s a pretty dang busy park with beaucoup tourists… and those tourists want to see elk/moose… not just empty valleys when the wolves push them out… they have been through for sure just none of them stayed

Gee, maybe they should have thought about that before they released them.
I have had the same thoughts from the very beginning of this fiasco. The head and the feet and the hands of this whole operation don’t have any idea what the other parts are doing. Years of Human Resources and millions of dollars spent only to find that they should have listened to CPW original recommendation not to forcefully reintroduce wolves. It’s obviously a total mess. This is on Polis and his constituency forcefully pushing this agenda. On another note, It was informative for me to watch and listen to the individual members of the Commission and their thought processes and input. I actually feel better about most of them and their ability to effectively perform their jobs as commissioners. It’s hard to know that from reading only news media.

I did not know that. Mystery solved. Thanks
Utes will save hunting in southern Co… they sell high priced tags and don’t want that ruined, plus I believe they run cattle/ bison as well, I know they weren’t happy about the introduction. I believe they are allowed to shoot on sight on the res… someone from southern co probably knows better

The grey wolves are a long way from their reservations....literally 100's of miles. The reservation near where I live does not sell any tags to non native americans. They also don't really have anything to do with non reservation hunting, except they can hunt anytime, anywhere in their historical hunting area by treaty. They couldn't care less about non tribal members.

Gotcha. A by product of that is that they won’t release any wolves near the res and the Indians can shoot them on site… I’d say it’s helping out southern Co at the moment

Fingers crossed for Colorado and its resident hunters/anglers/outdoorsmen… keep fighting the good fight! What a mess this has been from the start. Monitoring intently from WV. Sad watching an amazing hunting/recreation landscape become devalued to the people that enjoy it because of bad politics.

What a clown show. Management plan not being followed, everyone being lied to from the start. Another nail in the coffin for shifting the Overton window. Would not be surprised if lead starts flying soon. The question is who (what ranch) will be the scapegoat.

The people that voted for this wont feel any of the repercussions of any of it, unfortunately. The biggest stakeholders are pretty much pushed out of the picture (ranchers, hunters, west slope residents)!

Yep it’s been a disaster from the jump. Which many of us who were against it from the start knew it would be pure boondoggle!

Plus Polesmoker is a lame duck, he is trying his best to get more loonies on our CPW wildlife commission, which hopefully we can block but it’s insane man! The state is facing massive shortfalls coming up ( self inflicted) yet they will continue to burn money on these stupid “pet” projects…
