There are certainly opportunities for those kinds of shots in the unit. Lots of open country. Also plenty of places where it gets fairly tight. Do you have an idea of where you want to hunt?
nope, starting from scratch here. hiked and car camped for two weeks in the rockies, yellowstone and tetons a long time ago, but never been to nw colo. i do plan to do whatever i can online to narrow down where i want to start, and want to get out there at least 2 days before first rifle to acclimate to altitude and do a little real scouting.
i know tv glamorizes everything, but would be cool to hike in a few miles and find some open country with elk frolicking around and be able to reach out and touch one!! a guy can dream, right...
Be ready for the weather and crap roads. Might be best if the snow doesn’t melt. If it does, the mud is worse. You may need chains. Most of that area has no cell coverage and a lot of elk in steep dark canyons.
