Cold Bow 2025.... QnA Thread

Is anyone adding angles to their shots? If so do you find up or down more difficult?

I'm thinking about mixing it up some for day 3.
I didn't this year but have in the past. I hauled my target to the hills (during Covid, not working so much) and did angles. It was hard!!! but fun.

Do it!!!

Quivers always on, and usually is filled with arrows to keep practice weight the same.
I've never understood why anyone removes their quiver except to fit in a case. Just like the next post learned, you need arrows for follow up shots and bow quiver is the quickest easiest way to store them.
I have noticed some quivers have noise and vibration, but the mathews fixed quiver up tight to the bow with the integrated rest pushed me over the edge to upgrade my 13 yo bow a few years back.
I never shoot with a quiver on my bow. I run this hip quiver when I’m stalking in. Only time I ever have my quiver on mine is when I’m packing in to camp. I used to rig up a little clip on my quiver to keep it on my belt but this is substantially better.

Just finished my first CBC. Post #30. Thanks to Robby And all the sponsors. whish I had started sooner. I went 1/3 all my shots hit low was a fun challenge and an eye opener. Definitely got some things to work on

I drew an archery ibex tag down here in NM this year. Considered driving out to some cliffs about 45min from the house, but just didn’t have the time with work this year

Found the 10 ring on my last one. Dialed two yards extra on my tape today. Rained all day again but stopped long enough for me to squeeze one in. Thanks again for putting this on! Whole lot more pressure videoing a one and done shot each day!
Stuck to just one camera today.

Do you find certain angles such as up, down, or side hill harder than others?

Uphill is generally harder on shooters. It definitely exposes the ones with a DL too long. Footing can be a big issue. Even shooting what would be flat but with something like a bucket to put your front foot on can make it difficult, loading your back leg.

Side hills are difficult too.

I think in general it's footing over body position for up/down or side hill that makes it harder, unless your uphill and too long on DL, that's where float can really open up.

Not asked of me, but figured I'd answer.

Know a guy that had that tag. His first suggestion was get in shape and second was practice shooting up and down at steep angles.

Good advice! I went to school down in Las Cruces for my undergrad and masters. Hunted there A-LOT, and it’s tough as hell. First time with my own Billy tag though so I’m stoked

every one of them was a challenge--it changes your form-- probably uphill the hardest. But the steeper the angle the harder it gets.

Sidehill always surprises me how much I have to cant my bow to level my bubble.

Over all I went 2/6 but I feel pretty good about the shots after not shooting in so long, it’s been about 5 months since surgery and 8 months since I’ve shot either bow. All 3 compound and 2 recurve would have easily went into the vitals on a deer sized target. A little more shooting and my bow arm should quit dropping the shots, each compound shot was low which is common for me when I’m not in shape and following though.

I defiantly need to get my fence up to split the pasture, it’s a PITA to shoot with the goats in the pin, not to mention they keep tipping over the targets. I barely made it up to pull arrows and they were already rubbing their horns on them.

yes you did! and thanks for the vids

I FINALLY HIT ONE! Post #35. Decent group for this challenge but I was not sighted in I can tell now. Extremely difficult to make any adjustments when only shooting a single arrow per day. I am not an expert shot so I can't always trust what I think when the shot breaks. After shooting my last shot on day 3 and it was also left I adjusted 5 clicks left and next shot hit the soft spot in the middle and the target barely held the arrow.

Takeaway: I cannot sight in at 20 and assume I'm good at distance. I suppose I knew that but my ego told me I'd be fine. I really enjoyed the idea behind this and will incorporate it into my routine during hunting season, I try and shoot a little during season but it's always for groups which I see now is not the best.

Thanks for putting this on and even my wife began to understand the why behind it as I was running out of the house to go shoot a single shot on mothers day 🤣

Hitting 1 out of 3 at what should be my MER is certainly humbling. Next year the MER will be the same but I will put in the work to be sure I get 3 out of 3.

I am shooting at sharp angle pointing down..lucky that I am too…with missing my GIANT target completely at least the arrow is going into the ground!

It’s killing me not to shoot and figure out if it’s me or my bow…1 more shot tomorrow.
I hear you. My two have been far off, partly due to wind, but i really want to take more shots to see what the heck is happening! I will do it the right way but misses and unable to understand fully why is frustrating 😕

I am in the same boat. Something going on with my shoots and I need to get it figured out. I have been doing these challenges for years and this is so frustrating this year.
I will get it figured out this weekend
